If you went to Grimsby, did you expect anything less than a dull match?

You don't need to set the wprld alight in pre season.

Snodgrass still pushes everyone over and then moans to the ref about it, Grant Holt is still a big bully and we still can't attack to save our lives.

Me, and that's bollocks. He's one of the most talented players we have.

Everyone'll probably shocked at who I thought was MOM tonight because 99.9% of the time I'll say McKenna.
Dudgeon was absolutely outstanding tonight and thoroughly deserved man of the match; if he plays like that every week, Dawson won't get a game.

Did anyone else think Mckenna looked abit larger than last season, did he put on weight, also, Grant Holt looks overweight in person,

Has anyone ever seen Grant Holt and Jon Parkin in the same room?

It was a typical pre-season game, disjointed and lacking the sort of intent and desire that you'd expect in a league game. I like the look of the new lads, Fryatt doesn't look match fit but still offered far more quality when he replaced Mclean. Koren looks disinterested when playing on the wing and sticking him out wide when we're trying to get him to stay with us probably isn't a great idea.

Dudgeon looks good going forward, but looks a bit iffy defending, he made some good interceptions, but he was passed far too easily on occasion. I certainly wouldn't have him as man of the match, I'd give that to McKenna, who chased down everything and linked up play nicely.

Cairney flatters to deceive, he's got great skill on the ball, but only seems to use it to keep hold of ball, he seems incapable of making a forward pass. It's a shame, he has the skill to be one of the most important players in the squad, but outside of set pieces he rarely troubles anyone.

Paul McShane hasn't learnt how to play football while he's been away, he's still flying around like some ginger Tasmanian devil, he's utterly terrible. Something that's now eggarated by the fact that he's started wearing coloured boots and Bullard's hair, the sooner he's gone, the better.

Snodgrass gets worse every time I see him play, he's a complete knob.

£3.80 a pint in the members bar now, starting to take the piss a bit, it's not even decent beer.

Spot on with 90% of that, thought Mckenna was superb and Dudgeon a close second, worked like a little ferret. Disagree with your opinion of McShane though, thought he had quite a reasonable game when he came on. Testamount to how much we've all missed our footie that virtually nobody left the stadium until the final whistle.

Great report and analysis, cheers for that. Have to agree that we need to support the manager but am unsure if we have made any real progress at all with Barmbys sacking.

Where did I dispute he wasnt 'talented'? I said I havent seen him have a good game outside the PL and the two things are very different.

There's no doubt he has the ability to perform more consistently than he does

He was reasonably entertaining(mainly because he kept clattering into their front men), but seriously, he's dreadful.

Depends on the size of the room. By the way, don't know how he could complain when he knocked over Koren in the North East corner, moaning twat. And the East stand linesman got his fair share of '****ing nobhead' at him tonight too.

I think we can do really well this season if we play something like this:

    -------------McKenna---------------
    -Aluko----------------------Stewart-
    ---------------Koren----------------
    -------Fryatt--------Proschwitz-----

Last night, we clearly had some danger on the wings, but when Norwich went to cover that and stop us moving down the wings, there was no real good option in the middle. I think that Cairney has the ability, but he just wasn't there much, he should have been constantly looking for the ball from the full-backs, and then moving it on to the strikers. However, if we play Koren in that link-up role, we might see a little more success.

    Player ratings

Amos 6 - Hardly had a save to make but when he did he saved it well, but he doesn't look as comfortable as Mannone TBH.

Rosenoir 7 - Did nothing at all wrong and was 10x better than McShane or East

Chester 10 - Best player on the pitch for me and I can guarantee he will be playing for England next year he is that good.

Faye 8 - very solid but unsure if he can last a whole match.

Dudgeon 7 - Defended very well and went forward with intent

McKenna 7 - Didn't do anything wrong really

Cairney 6 - Needs to go forward more

Koren 5 - Very Poor and didn't look interested on the wing he needs to be played in the centre

Aluko 8 - Wanted to take people on and did, using his speed very well

Mc Lean 6 - Worked hard as usual but he isn't a very good footballer and that showed.

Proschwitz 8 - Very Good I thought, wanted to score a goal but didn't quite do it - very promising

Cant be bothered to do the subs

Yeah, I was saying to the lads I go to the games with last Season that as good as Corry Evans is, we need to drop him and play 4-1-2-1-2. McKenna is old and his time is near anyway so Evans will get his regular first team place anyway.

This is bang on what I said in terms of you analysis and proposed formation solution. If Norwich can work it out in a friendly that the only danger we possess is down the flanks then we're in big trouble. Them doubling up on our wingers left huge chasms in the middle but we simply had nobody able or willing to exploit this and Cairney just hid out of the way. It was crying out for Koren in there with Cam out wide but it seems we have a long line of managers who tell us Koren cant play centre mid in a 4-4-2 but as I said earlier, do we have any basis for thinking this? McKenna is brilliant at everything Koren isnt good at and I certainly believe we at least warrant trying the two of them in there together.
