To be fair this myth has been blown away in recent years. Speed kills and he has plenty. Hatton, Mosley, Cotto and Ortiz all admitted being surprised by his power. I agree though Scholes richly deserves his pick as the best we have produced of his generation, and rightly ranks up with the best the rest of world has to offer.

Victor Valdes - Protected by the lack of chances Barca concede.

    Hulk - £100m? **** off.

Neymar - As said, yet to see him do anything special against top quality. Don't get me wrong...he could come to Europe and be one of the best, but until he does...he is being overrated by some in the meantime.

    Special mentions:

Downing - I can see the logic. But I don't think many fans/journalists rate him at all!

Hazard - Seems a good player, but he overrates himself with that whole twitter transfer malarky!

I don't think that's his estimated worth, that's just how much his buy out clause is lol

    Exactly!

Floyd Mayweather has his critics, despite being the greatest pound for pound fighter, so like Mayweather, critics will always point fingers at the parts of Scholes' game where he isn't as strong. Mayweather doesn't need to punch like Tyson and Scholes doesn't need to be able to tackle like Keane because historically, Keane et al have done that for him and he can concentrate on what he does best - controlling games.

Take off your Pool specs.....even Zidane said he would like to have played alongside him and rated him the best midfield opponent he has faced.

huge negatves to absolutely every single players game...so long as what they do with the ball is exceptional it is usually ok.

id go with Alves..he looks like a basterd and hes an average ball player, hiding behind Messi.

Balotelli....extremely overated due to his 'oh im so funny' antics....blame joe public for that.

Barry....camouflaged himself well in a good team.

id even say Parker....he is good at getting in the way but i expect more from someone who is taking up one of the midfield spots at Spurs...he has absolutely zero going forward.

as for those of you putting he likes of Downing etc...he is not overated..hes not rated at all..its Pool who overated him just like they overated Carroll.

p.s i agree Modric is overated..but that is a ploy...we know what he is capable of..but we want top dollar for a player who has 4 years remaining...come on lads you managed to get 35million for Carroll..you cant blame us for wanting 5 more for Modric.

Kaka for me. Had a few worldy games for AC Milan like the stuffing of UTD but goes missing consistently

Alves- Just hate how everyone raves about his shot most of the time it's woeful

Oxlade-Chamerlain- Will be a dissapointment like Theo

Don't think anyone rates Kaka anymore. Injuries have destroyed his career at Madrid and he's been replaced by younger and better. Agree mostly about Alves. Think it's too early to pass judgement on Ox, but everything I've seen from him so far makes him look a lot better than Walcott ever did.

Not sure if you're just trying to stir something up there cove but i think:

Ba - was overr-rated in January but now people have him pegged about right (except some Newcastle fans)

Perch - He's rated correctly, its just that he was massively under-rated for ages. He's still a liability at times, but he's not the donkey and the scapegoat he was.

Tiote - I agree. He's a very good player but he's not Essien circa 2007(ish), he's just a slightly better version of Scott Parker. He doesn't have the vision or intent of a box-to-box player and he doesn't frighten the opposition into just giving him the ball in a Keane like manner. Over-rated, value of £10-15m not the £25m some fans would talk you into thinking. Not that I'd sell him, I love the bloke.

The final part of your comment - No one at Newcastle ever stated he's worth 25m, I've mainly heard numbers like 12-16m. But we will never sell players for what they're worth, we need to hold out for bigger offers. 20m-25m is the least most of us would take.

He's not really over rated at all IMO. Maybe in the past by Newcastle fans, but I'm talking on a larger scale than that. We're obviously gonna big up our own players, but the players I mentioned in the OP, It's not just fans from the clubs they're at that rate them too highly.

Full fit Tiote annihilates a lot of opposition CM's. He's not really like Scott Parker. Parker is a player that is comfortable at the back, with good passing ability and movement, and the ability to start off attacks with a good pass. He has good vision.

Tiote is different. He's a very threatening physical presence, aggressive, and cuts out opposition quality through physical means. He's great tackler, although he has a tendency to get frustrated and make silly fouls. His reading off the game has improved, he's making better interceptions, and he looked beast vs Den Haag. He was awesome his first season, and very consistent. Last season he struggled for fitness, and was made to play with knocks, and quite often looked off the pace.

They're both different types of players IMO.

I can promise you he won't be, and the reason Theo went south a little (even though he is still a terrific player) is because he came through as a striker but wenger stuck him at right mid.

I mean he's a fantastic player, but many people say he's the best CB in the world, when really, I could name quite a few that are better than him.

Thiago Silva and Kompany are both significantly better at the moment.

Dani Alves - For reasons previously mentioned.

John Obi Mikel - He just doesn't do anything.

    Walcott - No end product.

Andy Johnson for the Injured XI

Hahaha Thiago Silva, better than Vidic

The same centre half who played vs Rosicky, Gervinho and co when they were running rings around him at the Emirates? Give me a break, he's not even as good as Rio.

There's a huge list of players that are billed as great players who are overall average/half decent but do a specific great job in their clubs' set-up. Using Tiote as an example, 25 yellows in the EPL in 2 seasons. That's poor but he breaks up attacks at a world class level. This is why he's great. He does the job he's asked to do brilliantly.

    My list

    1. Gareth Barry - has his games as most do but I don't see his overall hype.
    2. Danny Welbeck - his link up play is appauling, dribbling is poor and he's tackled way too easily, he nearly always loses the ball.
    3. Emmanuel Adebayor - not convinced, had one good season at Arsenal

Not his finest moment, but he's an awesome CB. PSG wouldn't have payed 42 million for him for him if he as **** as you make out.

Cheillini is another one easily better than Vidic.

    No it isn't...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNrPVvCRHx4 - an example of great link up play... Him and rooney link up well actually. One of the reasons he plays over Chicarito.
And he doesn't go on mazy runs very often, so I'm not sure how he's shown he's such a poor dribbler. He keeps it simple and is quite well rounded in my opinion. Playing for England as a lone striker won't flatter anyone.
His finishing is poor though.. No doubt.

It's Sturridge who tries running through 11 players, with his stepovers that usually end up with the ball rolling off the pitch.
