I toyed with the idea as Cairney as the "bannan" type, Can unlock a defence on his day, the thing that frustrates me abotu him and i think Barmby touched on it, is he gets easily sucked into playing the nice safe sideway or backwards ball to keep possession i really think he has the ability to pull of alot more risky lofted balls into the channels and the little defence splitting passes, its just getting him to do it, Might be a confidence thing???? As it stands really need Aluko and Stewart on form this season, Quality depth in the wide areas needed imo Loan signings are a big gamble and alot of the younger loan signings lack consistency. Hammil or Elohamady would be great or even Mcfadden but will all be on a big wedge, trying to think of some cheaper lower league options, Ryan Hall at Southend scored 14 set up 25 but Posh are in for him, And Jermain Mcglashan might be worth a look, very tricky winger with good end product, signed by Cheltenham in january for 60k.
I know it wasn't just Koren's injury and it was gradually getting worse from a few games before that, the main factors being fatigue and a lack of players, but Koren's injury didn't help (along with Chester, Hobbs, McLean and Dudgeon).
Well yes, I'd totally 100% say it was managerial error for not rotating his team when everyone watching could see they were running on empty. And it wasnt about the fact that the back-up wasnt great, if you write off some games with the ressies then the returning fresh players might have won other games. But there is no evidence to say our season imploded when Koren was injured.
i was delighted to read this today, and pleased bruce has noticed the problem quickly....he says we seem to know how to keep possesion, but have no idea how to actually be dangerous in the box as other posters have noted, it doesnt mean we are going to turn into long ball merchants, just simply learn how to be a bit more direct.. the basics, like getting some bodies in the mixer, when the right winger crosses, getting the left winger at the backstick etc, which hasnt happened for years! as ive mentioned before ive been bemused over the last 2 seasons, when people have left the kc saying we might not have won, but wasnt it great to see the best football ive ever seen city play!...when the game i had just watched mustered 1 shot on goal. neat 1 touch passing and possesion is great when played to perfection like barca and spain, who do it then rip people apart at will.. when most other teams try to copy it ends up with what we produced, 10 passes along the back four, ten along the midfield, then back across the back four, other people might enjoy that for ninety minutes, but i enjoy goalmouth action and the oppisition keeper having to make a save or 2, so im all for a bit of directness..
We just need players who aren't scared of getting into a position to receive the ball. Stewart needs his head screwing back on and a kick up the arse because we all know he is a great talent. Aluko looks to be brilliant. We always have the 30 yard Koren threat. We now have aerial ability with Proschwitz and Fryatt has his target man. We hopefully have a sound defence. This year we should be all round better. Fingers crossed.
You can't just drop your entire first team for a league game, the FL would go mad like when Blackpool did it and as a fan attending the game I'd be pretty miffed too. Barmby had his best XI plus an uninterested Simpson or a useless Olifinjana. What could he do?
Thanks to all who contributed to the thread. I have a more positive view of the situation now. The article worried me. Now I feel that Steve Bruce will actually provide a more varied approach. In fact as the day wore on I remembered how we played with NP at the helm, and I dont want that again. Nor do I want that mixed feeling of expectation and frustration that Nick left me with after some games.
I didnt mean the whol team. if you swap 3 of your outfiedl players that's just shy of a third of your outfield team and could make a huge difference. I dont recall it being a problem for Mancini last season.
Steve Bruce is the manager and it's his decision. The footballing decisions of the team shouldn't be decided by directors or fans. Steve Bruce should do what it takes to be successful.
That has to be the daftest comment I have read on these boards; they are opinions and views of folk on a forum board and not some sort of mandate or directive for the manager. Lighten up ffs!
Of course it wasn't, but that's cos Mancini has a **** load of good players at his disposal. Barmby had about 12/13 useful players to choose from.
We did have a slight problem with the depth of our squad last year. It was either youths or the expensive earners such as Oli who were our backup. We'll build the depth up progressively though.
We're looking a bit deeper already, thing is for every new player Bruce has signed two have got injured so it isn't really getting us anywhere.
Ah, you mean like Olifinjaya, Garcia and Jay Simpson with dozens of Premier League appearances between them....?
It really is. Ruddy hell, how mnay people on here actually do use their own name? In case anyone is wondering, yes I was christened Mr B Chinned_Crab. My parents Dave Crabb and Simone Chinned had a wicked sense of humour.
