    Team GB upto 43 medals now. 19G 12S 12B.

Latest medal is a windsurfing Silver by Nick Dempsey.

Earlier GB won its 19th Gold in the Triathlon Won by Alistair Brownlee. For those who dont know the triathlon is a 34 mile Swim - Bike and Run. Brother Johnie Brownlee got the bronze.

By the end of the games Great Britain is going to have alot of Gold Painted Post Boxes dotted about.

And there is the warning to the nation.

Australia, like we have, made sure that the majority of their athletes peaked for the Sydney games. There has not been the legacy left, or perhaps the political will, to carry on the work that was done and they have reverted back to Aussie Rules, NRL and cricket as their main sports which has lead to a gradual decline in elite performance since 2000 to now in peripheral events.

The UK has to perform and improve year on year for these games to be viewed as a lasting success with a sustainable legacy. I think we are ahead of the curve with recruiting at an early stage and identifying talent in the playgrounds, but as a nation we need more kids to not want to be reality stars and aspire to get off the sofa and participate in sport.

I think this amount of medals coming our way will only happen once in a lifetime. The underachieving teams will buck their ideas up for Rio, i should imagine. The Aussies will be well and truely criticised for being thrashed by us in two Olympics now.

We'll never compete with the yanks or the chinese when it comes to medal tallies, because we only have the lottery funding our way, Scotland wants independence, the government are slashing schools sports budgets, alot of the GB team haven't done much (ie the swimming- is still a weak link) and football, cricket even rugby will be more popular sports (as you said).

I agree with everything you say. It might be all down hill from here, but at least they put on a show when it counted.

    I'm loving it.

They put 18 gold lights up down Carnaby Street today, it looks like they'll have to buy some more bulbs.

Agreed. ^^^ this.!!! It was interesting reading many football message boards since saturday night. The mood and anger towards footballers is growing and i just wonder IF the British public have now had a mood swing against the overpaid fairies who blight our game. ? The GB men footballers imo lacked passion and spirit when it really mattered. ie the knock-out Qtr Finals on saturday night in Cardiff. . It will be interesting to see what happens over the coming months and years though in relation to a lasting legacy. Certainly we have a perfect infrastructure in place. A lot of sports get Lottery funded help. I think we shall continue to dominate what we are good at and ditch the rest. USA and China are far bigger countries and have greater pools of talent and money. GB should always be able to Win at least 40 medals though in each Olympics. imo

Imo, the Olympic Stadium should become the new home of GB athletics and a move from Crystal Palace made.

Nah, they'll all forget about it and swallow the Murdoch hype by the end of August. Personally, I have never subsribed to Sky Sports and I watched a grand total of one Premier League live game last season and ZERO MotD. Frankly I hate the Premier League and everything it stands for and Ive said numerous times on here that im caught in 2 minds about wanting a return. And dont confuse this with lack of ambition, i want us to do as well as we can the problem is what the Holy Grail has become is something I dont like.

I for one am loving the games, the whole nation is hooked so it's good the athletes are peaking, the viewing figures go down when the Olympics is held anywhere else, especially due to time difference.

Luckily Rio-Brazil is the next Olympic games in 2016 so not a massive problem with the time difference.

But back to London 2012 Games

Team GB WINS 20th Gold medal. In the equestrian Team Dressage event.

Indeed. The womens Omnium. Just Pendleton and Hoy to go now. GB cleaning up in the velodrome.

    GB = 21 golds.

NB. Pendleton and Hoy both retire at the end of these games.

So Anna Mears now goes one up because of the judges ruling Victoria Pendleton she went out of the line which she did but couldn't help it because she was elbowed
