This is a temporary reminder that all games have now moved to our sub forum (see top of this page or http://www.not606.com/forumdisplay.php/181-F1-Off-Topic) Cheers Want to find a certain thread easier... Quicklinks: Not606 GPRO team F1 odds and ends (spare parts) Who, What, When? Mafia Game II Sign Up Discussion Thread The not606 F1 World Championship Season 2
We might as well use this sticky as a quick-link page now. Got a suggestion for a thread to be quick-linked? Then type away
Good idea BLS. The links in your first post are particularly helpful. P.S. Tried to 'rep' you but once again got the message that it must go elsewhere. (Bonkers!)
I have an off shore Rep account you can deposit it into? Its not like I'm trying to avoid rep tax or anything
It's Wednesday, so to everyone participating in the sweepstakes, get your picks in now! To those in the inter-forum prediction league, a reminder, you have until Thursday, and to everyone involved in +/- you have until Friday FP1
Has anyone ever done "Mafia" on a forum before?, it's good fun and gets you using your brain a bit. You do need a few quite active people though for it to be successful.
Basically you have a "theme" I've seen stuff like Cartoon Mafia, NFL Mafia, World Mafia, Premier League Mafia etc etc. You can have several different formats but the most used is a "town" team or "innocents". A "Serial Killer" more commonly known as "SK" and a "Mafia" group, the bad guys. The person who makes the game and basically moderates it is the "Host" and doesn't actually play the game. Their job is to recieve "roles" and do vote counts and they set limits on each "phase" The towns job is to work out who the serial killer and mafia members are. You have day and night phases along with night "roles" and sometimes, but rarely day "roles" you can use in the day phase. Object is to "lynch" a player each day that you think could be non-town, majority has to be reached to gain a lynch when that players role and alignment is revealed. Mafia can fake claim to try and get out of a lynch. If you are town you better be good at getting people to believe you! Typical town roles include bodyguard/doctor, vigilante, jack of all trades, bus driver, cops/investigator, mason (normally a group of 2 players that can talk outside of the game about the game) and vanilla townie (has no role). Mafia or "scum" roles are Godfather(basically immune to investigation, will always come back as town and can order a kill every night), role blocker, bodyguard and rolecop. There are more roles when people have more experience. Serial Killer is just a single person who can kill 1 person every night. Town wins when the SK and scum are all dead. Mafia win when they outnumber the town. The SK wins when everyone else is dead. Mafia can talk to each other outside of the game in a quicktopic website. Town cannot discuss the game outside of the thread unless they are masons. There are other rules but that's the basic outline of the game. I guess the theme we could start here if there was enough interest would be F1.
Mafia is great with a bunch of people, I've played it several times before, although perhaps a more simplified version. I've tended to play it where you have a narrator, 2 killers, a cop, a doctor, and then just villagers. Each night, the killers decide together who to kill; the cop gets to find out from the narrator if someone is a killer or not; and the doctor has the chance to save the life of someone each night. Then 'the next morning' everyone wakes up, except the guy who got killed, and the town then spend the 'day' arguing who are the killers, before voting on who they want to lynch at the end of the day. I suppose if you run it as a forum, you'd just have to spread things out to account for people not being on every day. So we'd decide who's narrator, and they'd randomly allocate roles by PM. Then we'd have the first 'night', which would last for however long it took for the killers, doctor and cop to PM the narrator the name of who they want to kill/investigate/save, and then, I suppose with a new thread, the narrator would announce who was killed, with a poll for people to vote who the town should lynch on. The poll is open for say 3 days, during which time the thread is a free-for-all argument of people defending themselves and accusing others. When the poll ends, the person with the most votes is lynched, and then you repeat the day/night cycle until either both killers are routed out, or a killer wins. I'm sure between Iceman, myself, and anyone else who's heard of the game, we could draw up a set of rules and run it over the winter.
I imagine the first post will ressemble the sweepstakes ones, with lists and lists of rules that probably won't matter too much.
Well what normally happens is whoever runs the game writes up a summary at the end of day/night. Something along the lines of: The town were out for blood! Devastated by the loss of <insert name> they started pointing fingers. It all got very heated until <insert name> claimed he had damning evidence against <insert name>. The town agreed that <insert name> should be punished for his crimes. He was hung in the town square for all to see! <insert name> was: It can be quite busy for whoever is the host but I find it very fun. Normally each game takes between 1/2 weeks. Depending on how quick the mafia/town are killed without the other faction hitting targets.
