surely the very least we should be doing is waiting til august 31 and then making a detailed look at where the club is and what the situation is then? Thats my opinion, I'll be making my own season predictions just before the season starts as well based on what we know just for fun but i cannot disagree with a view that 4th is a long way off and trophies are very hard to win. however I find myself chuckling here as if i dared open my mouth like this i'd be called negative and names. Even though i'd not go anywhere near as far as most said here without at least seeing the full picture I'd have certain members of this no606 lfc board saying i'm a pessimist and negative etc... I wonder if said individuals will turn up here and give it large?
Wonder whether Kolo Toure could be offered to LFC should anything transpire with Citeh's interest in Agger. He would certainly fit the mould in terms of ball retention and he would add pace to the spine of the Team which is sorely missing.
Would rather Adam Johnson, who must be desperate to play some football. Unless he is like the Chelsea squad and happy to get paid a ridiculous amount for sitting down.
No, I wouldn't want to confuse your thinking with logic and facts like the difference between net spend and gross spend. That's sums and has nothing to do with spending on players and how you assess value. It doesn't back up your argument so best left alone, huh? Let's also not talk about first seasons vs development. Let's not talk about the 50% success rate in the market even the best managers only ever manage. Let's just take a big whiny hammer to a section of last season's results which didn't go well and blame Stewart Downing. It'll avoid your brain hurting with intelligent thought. Gross spend means Rafa spent £200m+. Why we didn't have 10 £20m players is a ****ing mystery to you, isn't it? What a waste of Tom Hicks' millions. Gross spend says we wasted £35m on Carroll. Net spend says FSG got an asset [Torres] as part of the firesale price of the club then sold that asset for over double what we paid for it to spend a bit of it replacing that asset with a more promising one and have some change left over to pay or Suarez. Stupid net spend confusing everything. Pah. Dalglish blew tons of money, end of. Kenny and Comolli - and Comolli was the negotiator deciding how much got blown, which was signed off by FSG at the top - got Bellamy for **** all. He got Enrique for £6m and Adam for £7m, whom every current critical muppet was talking about in glowing terms at the time, what with Blackpool being that season's Swansea and Adam being widely attributed as the heart of it. Dalglish blew tons of money, end of. Maybe we're not spending as much this season because we don't have as far to go. The clawing back from where we'd fallen to has been done. Oh gee shucks, now I'm covering more than one season. That's not fair, is it? Everything stops at the end of the season so any progress we make this season will have **** all to do with anything Kenny did ever and will have been planned by Brendan Rodgers since he was at Chelsea with Jose "total football" Mourinho. Seeds? Potential? Rebuilding? What have they got to do with gross spend? **** all. Hail hail, Brendan Rodgers and your Year Zero acolytes.
You misunderstand me. I understand that FSG poured very little of their own money last season if we are to look at it from a net spend perspective. I understand that Kenny did very well to recoup quite a lot of money from deadwood and players who wanted to leave. We had lot's of money to build from! We spent £107m from January 2011-September 2011! But looking at our squad you'd struggle to see £107m in the starting lineup, never mind in just Kenny's signings. In fact I like the majority of Kenny's signings, I'm a big fan of Henderson, Suarez, Carroll and Enrique (on occasion). But nobody can say that we didn't massively overpay on a few of them (except Suarez obviously who was a fantastic signing). No manager who spends £107 million in 7 months should struggle to get into the top 6. I'm sorry but it's just facts, I said disregard the net spend/gross spend debacle because if you look at it simply, Kenny blew a lot of money. Sure he generated some of it but by spending it all on potential or one-season-wonders he dug his own grave I'm afraid to say. I enjoyed his brand of football, and in all honesty would have liked another season with him at the helm. But I really don't blame FSG for sacking him. You don't have to be so sarcastic by the way, you clearly didn't properly read what I wrote before your anus tightened and decided this would be time to verbally **** all over your keyboard. It's nice to see someone so butthurt over my posts but you might want to simmer down. EDIT: Also but it's ridiculously simplistic to look at the Torres sale as Torres = Carroll + 15 million. We were granted £50 million for a player who would be slightly missed, for that amount of money you can build an entire squad but Kenny squandered it and put his reputation on the line. It was a stupid move, I like Andy but nobody could ever say we did good business there, as much as some blinkered LFC fans would like to think, it was poor.
If andy stays ten years and gives us ten + goals a season he is not a bad signing really hope he stays
Hear that Swansea fans, when you find yourself in the relegation zone just ask your club to spend £100m and you will be up in top 6 the next game. It's not like the new players need time to gel or anything.
City did rise from midtable to league champions on around double that I think. So getting into top 6 is achievable. Point me to the part of my post where I said we should sell him? If you read it you'll see that I said I like Big Andy, just that it was an utterly ridiculous transfer that should never have been sanctioned. I'll get behind him now he's here but in all honesty he shouldn't have been signed for that money.
Yes... That's what I'm saying. Winning the league obviously takes more money than securing a spot in the top 6. All I'm saying is that £107m should be enough for top 6 from the team we had considering what City had and where they ended up 3-4 years down the line.
IMO the squad was good enough to finish top and just underperformed for a variety of reasons. There are plenty of reasons to knock the under performance but gross spend is not really one of them.
