SUNDERLAND are prepared to meet the £12m asking price for top summer target Steven Fletcher. The Black Cats, having upped their offer from £10m to £11m in recent days, will finally go to the £12m mark which Wolves have insisted is the lowest fee they would accept before considering the sale of their star asset. And Martin OâNeill will hope that once the final offer is submitted, progress will be swift on the sale of the Scot to Sunderland. The fee of £12m, roughly the same sum Sunderland paid for World Cup star Asamoah Gyan, might seem steep for a player who is preparing for a season of Championship football.
Me too. Imo, he will score as many as Gyan, be a better fit for our club and certainly work harder for our long term success. £12m isn't cheap but its acceptable given he is contracted to wolves and cost them £7.5m two years ago. He has improved in that time. Get this one rolling and maybe it will trigger another 2 or 3?

Think he's worth it but I don't think we should pay it to a championship club when we're not even in a bidding war. Let the ****ers stew and we can go after someone else (or at least let the media know we are)
It's not your money. Why would you care about how much he costs? If your board deem him worthy of £12 million then that is his worth.

Exactly. It matters not these days. My own view as a supporter is just support whichever 11 is put in front of you on a Saturday. Let the board worry about finance. Nobody wants to see money wasted but there is no rhyme or reason to transfer markets. Cisse seems a snip at 7.5-9m, paying the quoted 12m for Debuchy seems outrageously poor value in comparison. Its difficult to remember to just have faith in the manager board to use available funds wisely though. Particularly if you support Liverpool.
No it is not bollocks. The value of something is what it is as perceived by the (potential) buyer. Bear in mind the lad cost 7.5 million to begin with AND he has improved since leaving Burnley. If the board wishes to spend 12 million of it's own money then so be it. If Newcastle decide to spend 15 million on Debuchy, it would be a rip off, but it would not be for me to tell Ashley how to do business with HIS OWN cash.
Not paying the £12m now might cost us £4 or £5m in league positions come next May. We need at least one striker in now and if he is it, then the actual fee is immaterial.
12 mill is far too much for a striker from a relegated club, secondly, wolves will now uo their asking price to 15 mill

We will withdraw the offer at £12m imo. Wolves tbh have played their hand well. To over play it now might come back and slap them big time. All good card players know when to cash their hand in. Its time for Wolves to play theirs and time for us to do likewise.
This 'it's not my money' argument is total rubbish. Firstly, it is our money (tickets, merchandise etc). Secondly, money wasted by the board on one player means less to spend on other players.
But is worrying about value going to change anything? No the owners and managers will do as they please so in modern football, once you hand over your ticket/merchandise money it is no longer your money. It would be like a buying a pair of trainers from JD Sports, and thinking its bought you a stake. I'd agree in the past it bought you a sense of your money and your club. Bottom line is its a business now and its Ellis Shorts club. They'll trawl out the "community feel" like all clubs but its a just a business owned by Ellis Short. Its probably a little bit depressing to think about but all a ticket or shirt buys you in modern football is a top to wear or a day out watching football.
Don't forget that Wolves will want to buy players as well. If they take too long over this deal it will leave them rushing about at the end of the window. It's in their interest to get this deal done fairly quickly.
