Does anyone know why the GB team are all wearing sports kit manufactured by a German company? Don't we have a British company who would have welcomed the business?
I think we should just be proud of how well the olympics has gone I was there this weekend and its one the best sporting events I've witnessed . I'm not bothered who makes the kit but I'm proud of the people wearing it .
Adidas paid the most to be an official sponsor I would think. Interestingly Nike are not an official sponsor, but make the US team kits. It's all about the $$$$
Most countries have different kit manufacturers, and it isn't a stupid thread, what if all foreign countries had been chosen to build the venues. It's the London Olympics, a chance to enhance and advertise British companies & business & improve our economy.
Obviously adidas paid the most money, I've no problem with it as obviously the money is going to good use. Besides, which British manufacturer? Admiral? I'd rather not.
You could make a case for that proper old fashioned 'English' brand Reebok, but they're owned by Adidas. ££££
This is absolutely ****ing ridiculous, I may even go as far as saying the worst thread I have ever seen and that is saying something. Alright then, who manufactured the carpets in the athletes village, who made the hockey sticks, who created the buses taking athletes to and from the stadium?!? Who made the TV I am watching it on? YOU MEAN THEY WERENT BRITISH?!? I am disgusted and refuse to watch a single further minute of something that so openly supports dirty, cheating, thieviing Johnny Foreigners. And what do you mean that bloke who won the 10k is a Somalian refugee?
while we are on the subject, at the European championship Carlsberg were the English team sponsors. So (a) why didn't they sponsor Denmark, and (b) I can name you hundreds of English beers that are better than Carlsberg. BTW, just saw a stat that showed if Yorkshire was a country we would be 11th on the Olympic medal table.
Bum Chinned, you are either thick or purposely missing the point. You don't see winning athletes parading round with carpets over their shoulders do you. When our young kids see our winners they associate themselves with them and want to look like them (tracks suits etc) . You telling me that when you were young you didn't want the same football boots of your hero. I realise we might not even have a good British manufacturer of sports goods but then my thread actually asked the question. "Don't we have one week could have we could have promoted" These Olympics are fantastic and as a country we should be using every mean possible to promote ourselves in the world. You don't understand the point I'm making , this isn't about individual athletes, it's about business opportunities. The remark about Johnny Foreigner is ridiculous this isn't about race it's about us (GB) squeezing every business chance we can, while we can.
Erm, so how doesnt that apply to the elements I mentioned? Im pretty sure there are British manufacturers for everything involved in the Olympics, but we didnt use them for everything. And the answer to your initial question is shockingly simple - Adidas made the best proposal. Who is being thick again?
There is no British sportswear company even close to being able to fund a deal like being the Team GB kit sponsor, even the brands you probably think are British, aren't.
That would have been the easy answer at the start OLM, shame people chose to misinterpret it into a race or xenophobic remark. Don't think they read it correctly.
