I wouldn't want Carroll as a first choice striker, but I'd definitely take him as back-up and competition to Adebayor, if that ever gets sorted. Despite the image he has, he can actually play football and would suit our system perfectly, I think. Holds the ball up well, very dangerous from crosses, useful defensively on set-pieces and has plenty of potential. Seems like he can play the lone role, which is essential and I can imagine Sigurdsson playing off him in the cups, for instance. Rodgers might not rate him or see how he fits into a side that plays attractive football, but he didn't exactly get it spot on with Swansea's strikers last season, either. Graham did well for them, but their next highest scoring strikers were Lita and Moore, who only managed two league goals each.
Good point with Rodgers PNP, I agree, I don't exactly know what kind of frontmen BR is actually looking for. AC does seem to have gone backwards to me, I also think his tag of only being suited to hoofball is slightly unfair. For Toon, he often dropped deep to receive the ball, would turn and rifle in shots from around and outside the 'D'. The main thing I see is he looked much leaner and fitter then, he got a bit lardy during that long injury layoff and hasn't got it off from what I see. The player we saw at Toon is worth buying, the one at Pool, no thanks, it would be a huge gamble to try and revive the way he was at Toon imo.
Yeah very true PNP, and Carroll works his socks off. Wins so many headers to retain possession too. He wouldn't be a bad back up striker at all, but he's ridiculously over priced. Id be pissed off if we spent that sort of money on him!
im sorry but i would also love to give umpteen amounts to charity..however i can only give relative to my income..the world owes Ade fuk all...and the charities will have a little if they cant have alot..better than nothing....but the guy should be wanting to play football for football's sake...
As for Caroll..i think id have him for 10million..and had Pool initailly paid only 15million for him max..then the guy would still be hot property with what he does on the pitch..however the 35million kenny paid for the lad has killed him.
I am getting worried for you now, there seems to be a shortage of viable options for you now, obviously Adebayor still remains your favoured option, opinion is split on Berbatov and Carroll who I think could both do the job, and after that who else is there, Sturridge? Too similar to Defoe in my opinion, slightly left field would you consider Hooper from Celtic? Best bet could be getting one of Madrids forwards as part of the Modric sale, I am really interested in who you think are realistic targets
I thought hooper might be worth a punt in jan. Is he available though? I can't believe so many people are against Carroll when at the moment we have 1 senior forward who doesn't fit the system and a youth player with 0 prem goals to his name. With AVB the purchase of carroll would not result in hoofball, but we'd prob score some headers from crosses.
Unfortunately, Adebayor seems to have made his stand. As I can't see either Levy or City acquiescing to his outrageous demands, and I believe that he's probably too stubborn and proud to back down. So, that is looking increasingly like a dead duck. For me, I still think the best possibility is Damiao. I don't think Levy has forgotten him, or written him off. It's just whether he can agree a price with Internacional. But yes, something has to break soon, or we're up ****e creek for the start of the season. One serious injury up front, and there's virtually no back up.
Since his outrageous demands are simply for City to honour his contract I'm sure he will sign for us in due course.
I agree with most of this Roo, but don't know why you think Levy is arrogant. He is just a tough negotiator.
Reportedly, he wants more than that. He is now demanding that the £4-5mil transfer fee be handed over to him to " punish" City. That being on top of City continuing to make sure he doesn't lose anything in the way of salary.
I'm not sure he does - If he just sits his contract out he gets about £18m. Since City are not intending to play him they are going to lose this amount of money which Ade is entitled to. Any other arrangement is a benefit to City. We think he is worth £5m per year so logically any deal where City don't pay out at least £8m leaves some money on the table. It is City being greedy by demanding a transfer fee, not Ade.
I have to disagree. Yes, certainly he can sit out the rest of his contract and receive whatever City are contracted to pay him. However, assuming that he actually wants to play football, then he must reach some compromise with City. If he is more interested in the money, than playing football, then he can spend two years playing in city's reserve team, by which time his career will be finished. IMO, City have been very reasonable, they want to get rid of him, obviously. However, he seems more intent on exacting his pound of flesh from them, than he does on his career.
I agree. I think City are being quite fair tbh. If Ade wants to play for a team that want him, where the fans will love him, and he will be great again, he should come to us. If he wants to train everyday, to sit on a bench (at best!) then earn 200k ish then so be it. But imo he would be a mug to do that. (obviously I may have my Spurs hat on with that comment)
I don't think that the stories circulating about any of our potential signings are true, including this one. Every journalist and self-proclaimed ITK has been completely wrong so far and they all appear to making wild stabs in the dark. There's no doubt that we're interested in signing Adebayor, but this might be yet another deal being held up while other transfers are being sorted out. If the deal were to go through now, after about a month of pissing about, then the player would be up about £280k and he'd have only missed a few friendlies. I'm sure he'd see that as an acceptable sacrifice, as frustrating as that's been for us lot. Most of the other crap seems to be held up by Modric not going and the Olympics. We can't shift Dos Santos, if he's going, nor can/could we sign some of our other supposed targets, like Damaio or Ramirez.
It strikes me that, somewhere along the line, Mr Levy has blurred the distinction between being hard headed and pig headed.
that's what I was getting at with my "arrogant" comment that PS questioned. you've just worded it far better than I would have done, NSIS.
according to us..the fans maybe. Cant be bending over backwards to get in a player...any player.....Levy represents the club..and we dont want the club bending over.....simple as that as far as Levy is concerned i would say. Every single person that we have been linked with will only join if he can rinse us the greedy sons of bitches...strangely enough we did not mess around getting in Vertognen and Sig...both wanted to play football..both are welcome by me....the way Ade is talking he better be scoring 30 plus for us if we get him..his charity concerns are his own..we all have commitments...but our work places dont fund them...footballers are the biggest set of ****s aound.
True Dona, but what about the players who have signed for other clubs and haven't been bent over backwards in order to get them? Giroud, Podolski, Luuk De Jong, Mandzukic, Rondon... None of those broke the bank. well, not when you consider how much andy carroll cost! I think they were all in the region of £15mill or less. unfortunately there's a certain price that has to be spent in order to get the kind of player we want. Market price for the type of striker we need, is going to be at least that. - and that's pretty normalfor a striker. My biggest concern is that Levy is trying to spend about 10mill. - which could easily be a waste, whilst trying to get a bargain. the days of spending that sort of money on quality strikers, are over. the market has changed. especially as we're a club who are looking to retain or improve on 4th position. - not 6-7th when we signed the likes of berbatov for that kind of money in a different market 4-5 years ago.
