Smudger. Gotta disagree. Ba is a target man who's strong, quick, direct and powerful. Best is not a target man IMO.. he's got more to his game than that. He's got enough pace to cause some degree of trouble(fair amount anyways), strong hard-worker and a decent finisher, Best also seems to be better playing with a partner(Loverman for example) than playing on his own were he'll get too isolated and be really ineffective. Two different strikers IMO.

Fair point, but we havent really used Best by himself and if you watch the West Ham game, we used him like a target man and I remember thinking he was doing Carroll's job excellently. They are different types of player but IMO he can do a similar job that Ba can and has a similar goal ratio in the PL. If we want this "play it on the floor" game we need smaller, quicker players. We've already got Shola, Best, Ranger as a big guy to aim for, someone like Gameiro is missing from our striking options IMO.

Definitely need to get some pace into the team, ideally up front on the wings.

Good point as well. Gamiero would be lovely, Vargas' even better. Cheeky bid for Jermaine Defoe anyone?

We need a quick, nippy, skillful and a consistent/strong finisher sort of striker. <ok>

How about Rodagella from Wigan? I know he's not the best but I could see him fitting in well with our Spanish-speaking ''amigos''.

My shout would be Moussa Sow, I think he could spear head our attack next season with Ben Arfa and Gervinho playing off him. Sow has speed, strength and the technical ability to play the lone striker role that Carroll did earlier in the season.

Ben Arfa is worth at least double what we paid for him imo. I agree with the fact that we shouldn't pay too much and I think £15 million should be the limit as we need to strengthen the squad with more than a couple of players.

Lorient v Lille next Sunday - Gameiro, Gervinho and Sow all in action. I must remember to watch that one.

I can't rate Gameiro enough, he is brilliant. He can finish from outside the box and he also has that annoying knack of arriving on the end of crosses all the time with a finish. A Real poacher of a goalscorer with great movement, excellent footwork too.

Yes, I read your article. And no, I'm not basing my theories just on youtube. Sorry to disappoint.
You want to me to not respond to the question you asked?
    Yes...intelligence shining through there....

I just think 12-15m might be enough to get him. But who knows. I'm not right, you're not right, **** knows who's right. Who cares. We aint gonna know for months.

    I lol'd.

And not to sound racist or anything, but personally I don't think Newcastle need another of the quintessential hulking, black monster's up front as we already have a Shola. I'd like to see another forward come in but if we get any more than two young players like Phil Airey will never get their chance, or when they do we have someone like Gervinho at 80 K a week making the casual sub appearances or starts.

But on the subject of Phil Airey, I'm really excited about him. I think if Newcastle can produce another local striker it will show that there really is something unique about the club that brings out the best in their local boys.

Why you gotta piss on everyone's chips man Tash? We're all sitting here excited about the prospect of Gervinho, and then you stroll in with your miserable face on. "Oh guyysss, what if Gervinho isn't that gooooood". You're like a cross between Ross off Friends and Buzz Killington.

Anyway, I'm honestly quite excited for foreign talent. By going for EPL strikers only, we're severely limiting our options to usually over-priced players who aren't THAT good. I certainly can't think of any available strikers in this league at the moment who are particularly great for what they would cost.

With foreign players, we have so many more options, and it's much easier to buy players for a lot less than they're worth. Sometimes it can be more about the quality of scouting instead of how much cash you have. I mean come on, apart from Barton, we've gained three of our best players in this manner in Enrique, Tiote and Ben Arfa. You telling me that this approach doesn't work?

Of course there's a risk, but boy it can be worth it.
