Indeed. If you look at things from the other side of fence, I don't think too many City fans will be worried at the thought of going into the game without those two. I certainly wouldn't be.

It will help us, I'm sure. But we'll still lose.

If we get hammered on opening day, are we worried?
We know Saints can be a well organised and disciplined team, If we grind out a decent draw or win result against ManC you can bet your life the next few will not let us have the ball.
AF already knows how well we can be from the FA cup match, and we have improved a lot since then.

Yeah, you´re right. We might as well not travel and forfeit the match, we´ll never beat them.

... I said IF Silva doesn´t play and we can get our midfield to focus on stopping Toure from playing, then we´ll have a good chance of getting something because without their midfield controlling the game then they struggle. Swansea last season ,at the Etihad stadium, stopped them from playing for long periods of the game by not letting the midfield get hold of the possession and control the game and they did the same at home when they beat them 1-0. So, if we can do the same as them, then we´ll have a chance of getting something. I like to believe that we have a chance. I don´t want to go into the game thinking we´ll get spanked.

I do! That way when we get spanked (let's be fair, there's no ifs or buts, we're gonna get killed) I won't have set myself up for disappointment :)

Er.... didn't Swansea get tanked 4-0. And I'm not saying that we'll never beat them. I'm saying that we are huge underdogs and we will need to have a huge amount of luck on our side to come away with anything other than a defeat.

What kind of mentality is that? Thank god our players and manager don´t think the same way.

    We're gonna get spanked.

And Toure would be much more of a loss than Silva.

A reasonable, realistic one? Am I paid, is it my living, to do my best to prevent it from happening? No, it's my hobby to think about, talk about and watch football. Therefore, with no obligation (or indeed method) to attempt to change the inevitable, I can say with some comfort, despite my very best efforts, we're going to get bummed by Man City.

Don't be silly, you expect us to lose - so naturally that rubs off on the whole of the team and coaching staff. Well done you, I hope you're proud of making us lose on the opening day.

I'm expecting a call from Nigel to say I've been released any minute now. Sorry for letting the side down :(

Why pretend we are gonna get a point when all we are gonna do is ship goals

No they didn´t "get tanked 6-0". They lost 4-0 but until the 55th minute they were very much in the game and frustrated City a lot. They went on to score 4 because of Aguero who came off the becnh and linked up with Silva, scoring 3 goals between them. However, Silva hopefully won´t be playing against us, so there won´t be that connection....That is why I think we have got more of a chance.
Of course we are huge underdogs, everyone knows that, and we´ll definitely need some luck to get something from the game but you never know.

Well it's a small glimmer of hope but City have so many quality players and will probably sign a few more maybe? In my head though, I can see us getting beat 3 or 4 nil but in my heart I believe we can hold out for a draw (until the last 10 minutes)

I think the positive thing for us is that we also have players that can hurt them (e.g Lambert, Lallana, Jay-Rod etc.) and we can play some great football not to mention the threat we have in the air from crosses and set pieces. Can't wait to see how we will cope with the Premier League Champions <ok>

Bloody hell. What a ****ing awful attitude.
... I can´t wait until the start of the season. I´m so looking forward to being back in the prem and giving the big guns a run for their money. We have been working really hard in pre-season to be 100% ready for the City match and we are going to give it everything we got. We´ll be on T.V, there´ll be 3,000 saints fans roaring us on and it´s going to be a great occasion....but of course there are people who think nothing more than us getting spanked and "shipping in goals". Geeez, If I had that mentality then I wouldn´t be looking forward to being in the premier league and would have preferred to stay in the lower leagues. I, however, am looking so very much forward to pushing City all the way.

Yeah, but they don't know who we've got lined up either

Yikes, that's just taking things a bit too far don't you think? Glad I'm watching it in the pub now. To those who are going, the Etihad is one of the best grounds I've ever been to so I hope you enjoy the day out despite the bumming.

I guarantee I'll enjoy the Man City game more than you will. I'm loving being back in the Prem, excited to come up against world class teams and players like Man City, but don't live in a happy little bubble of rainbows deluding myself we'll get a result. So when we lose 4-0 I'll not be slightly upset because I fully expect it, while people like you will be wound up we didn't push hard enough to get a result.

Being realistic and reasonable is not "having a ****ing awful attitude", it does not mean we'd rather stay in the lower leagues, it does not mean we cry ourselves to sleep every night thinking about the horrors that await us. It just means we expect to get beaten by teams significantly better than us, I don't know why you take such issue with that, but hey ho.

Why is it an awful attitude? I am ridiculously excited about being back in the Prem, everyone i know supports premier league teams, (although most of my mates support Reading... but they are prem now anyway) so the banter will be ridiculous.

But I am expecting us to lose to City. Theyhave spent hundreds of millions of pounds on players. They have two better players than us in every position. Will it stop me cheering my heart out and hoping, praying and stropping about us winning on the day? Of course not. The only reason I'm not going myself is because I'm on holiday.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and anything in between will come as a pleasant suprise.

So.. Because we expect to be comfortably beaten by the best team in England, we have "****ing awful attitudes"?

I'll be bloody proud of the team if they only lose by a single goal. A draw would be fantastic.
