Morning all, looks as if more showers are forecast for today which saves a bit on the watering and hopefully puts a bit back into the water butts. "Managed to find out a few things about the goings on at The Red Lion and was sad to hear a lot of staff are worried about their jobs as the new management team look to bring new suppliers in - hopefully they will all be OK as they are a great bunch and work their socks off for the club." So who are they working their socks off for, the club or LB? There are conflicting stories on that.
Sorry OFH - not too clear. Staff I was talking about were at the ground, not the RL, they have been working their socks off for the club not LB. New caterers coming in and they are concerned - looks like a TUPE arrangement. However I did some stories about the Red Lion that I would not want to repeat on here - you probably have heard some similar stories.
Should be simple to ascertain - if they have the key to the safe, they work for the club........... Another gey dreich day up here - either winter has arrived early this year or summer never came at all - not sure which. Another busy day of Olympic watching on the cards after a spot of painting. Any computer whizzes out there who can answer a question for me? For some time now I've been losing patience with Internet Explorer - constantly freezing, opens up without toolbars - which can be annoying when one of them is the command bar - is forever blocking things I have asked it not to block, so I decided to try another browser. About a year ago, I tried Firefox but couldn't get used to it - have tried going back to it, but now find that it tells me that all my plug-ins need updating. Have no idea what a plug-in is, but when I looked at the list it showed about a hundred of the damned things and doing them one by one will take forever. My question is - if I remove Firefox and then download it again, will all those plug-ins be automatically updated? Thinking about it, if I download the new version first, will it automatically remove the old version?
Morning All With regards to the catering, if I remember rightly, about 6/7 years ago they were pretty much their 'own; company, although still under the Watford 'umbrella'. They had their own bank account, their own cheques and their own payroll, seperate from the football club. That is a couple of owners ago though, so not sure if that has been changed and if they were brought into the club completely. My guess is that the employees will pretty much stay the same under the new company, it's just the new company will think they can cut costs - such as a centralised payroll team/system, better deals with suppliers etc. Hopefully very little will change for the catering staff under than the company name on the payslip!
w_y you must chat a lot as your inbox is full. BB, I am also having loads of similar problems with IE. I have tried Firefox but cannot really get used to it either. Although I already had a version of it, when I first tried it it did download the latest version and made changes to the existing one. For the next few days I then received updates altering it again. I have had a brief look at Chrome, but cannot find enough time to persist with the things I am not used to.
Hi BB, I don't really use Firefox, but I'm guessing that if you were to reinstall the latest version it will either have all the plug-ins already or will download them for you automatically. If not, I'd try Google Chrome, I've been using it for years and never turned back. If you need a hand with anything just drop me a PM
Not busy chatting OFH - just rubbish at keeping in cleaned up. I have got rid of a load of old crap so should be OK now - I have sent you some gossip.
BB - surely it cannot be true what they have just said on the News that NZ are 10 places above Oz in the medals table ( with golds 3 to 1) ??
Jersey has a 100% success rate at the Olympics - we've managed to field 0 competitors at every single event! Guernsey couldn't manage that as they had Heather Watson in the tennis who lost in straight sets in the first round.
Afternoon all Must have a quick rant about mobile phone companies. My new phone, bought only seven weeks ago, stopped sending or receiving calls or messages this week. I took it back to the shop where I bought it to find the shop closed and no notice anywhere to say why it was closed or when it might open again. Returning home I phoned the phone provider and was taken through about 20 menus and several advertisements before I finally reached a human voice in a call centre. He tried to talk me through testing the phone, removing and cleaning the card, and reading back a long number which he decided was too long to be real. All of this was hampered by his heavily accented Englsih which was at times very difficult to decipher. When I pointed out the terms of the Sales of Goods Act he appeared never to have heard of it. After 15 minutes of assertiveness on my part he agreed to have a new phone delivered tomorrow morning. I suppose it's the right result but I could have done without the aggravation. I decided I would send them an email about their levels of customer service. I have just received a reply saying "Whoops, our email service is currently not working..." Says it all really. OK...apologies...rant over...
Not any more - we're on a roll and have two golds now. More importantly, only two places behind NZ now.
Thanks for that Toby - had already downloaded Firefox and it seems to be working problem-free at the moment, but who knows what it may be doing tomorrow.
It makes much mote sense for NZ and Aus to have a combined team - the United Kingdom of New Zealand and Australia, or New Zealand for short.
The Bailiwick of Guernsey comprises Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm. Jersey is a Bailiwick all to itself. Then there are the islands that are privately owned: Brecqhou, Jethou and Lihou although these are also part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Changing the subject to matters WFC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19147273 Looks like the new NI manager doesn't think much of Thommo as he hasn't picked him yet.
