Felt sorry for KP - he took apart the best bowling attack in the world including hitting the current no.1 in Test matches back over his head for a huge 6 and due to the success in the Olympics it was mainly ignored.

There is only one previous Wimbledon champion in the mixed doubles final this afternoon - Laura Robson who won the girls singles when she was 14 - she's still only 18 now. I just hope for both their sakes that the extertions Andy Murray will have in the mens singles just before that doesn't spoil their chances.

A purely rhetorical question, but if one of the gold medallists for GB was from here, I wonder whether Jersey Post would also release commemerative stamps and paint a post box gold?

    Morning all

Bright sunny morning here. Just checked to see if KP was continuing the mayhem of yesterday to find he was lbw second ball of the day. There will be a few disappointed fans at Headingley I think...

Neanderthals still alive and kicking in Blackburn it would seem - hope the culprits are found and banned for life before next April.

Great credit to Laura Robson - although they won silver, she wasn't even taking part shortly before the Games started.

Don't know how Robson did in the final, but she was almighty in the quarter and semi-final tiebreaks.

As for Murray: put him under the supervision of an English schoolgirl, and tell him that he's allowed to sing God Save the Queen if he wins, and all of a sudden he's a world beater. <devil>

Not at all, this is just one of those days where I feel the need to put a particular spin on things. And on that note, it's lovely to see Usain Bolt wearing a yellow shirt and doing a Marvin Sordell impression.

With all of the kids wanting to take up sport having watched the Olympics, it seems from here that the selling off of school sports fields for housing was a short-sighted policy. Every commune here has good sports facilities for those who want to use them free of charge, and although it cannot be sure of getting success it is not a hindrance. Wednesday the schools have a day off and as I go into the small town eight miles away there I see twenty or so young children getting tennis lessons. The department organize sports days where any youngsters can just turn up and try out all types of different sporting activities. The local councils all give grants to their local sporting clubs to buy kit and equipment, something that is quite difficult to do in the UK.

There is so much enthusiasm out there now I just hope that there will be a decent strategy and funding in place to take it on.

i heard today that there is going to be a big review by the government on the way kids are trained, or encouraged to play sports. Hopefully the 'legacy' we've heard so much about will actually come to fruition, and TeamUK will do better, and win bigger in the future..with proper funding and training.

H, I don't know what Imao means but I did feel a little guilty about the comment after I posted it. It was a cheap shot, indeed, and Marvin doesn't deserve it. Sorry!

Morning all from a brightening West West London - great day at The Vic yesterday. We was in The Legends yesterday and managed to speak to a few of them - it was great to see Mooney putting about on the pitch still!
Managed to find out a few things about the goings on at The Red Lion and was sad to hear a lot of staff are worried about their jobs as the new management team look to bring new suppliers in - hopefully they will all be OK as they are a great bunch and work their socks off for the club.
Quick visit as it's a mad week and I am cleaning up everything in prep for the W_Y invasion of the US next week!
