I'd love to see him back, he was a rock the year we went down, him and Enrique really didn't deserve to suffer a relegation. It's a shame he plays on the left half like Coloccini, he'd be perfect if he played on the right.

Samba is still my first choice, but if he's unavailable I'd like to see us go for Bassong, I was gutted when he left. He's a cut above Willo and Tayls, and I'd say his season for us was better than Colo's this year, he's still young as well. Think he's 25.

He was one of the players who walked out when they asked who was willing to stay and fight

Great player but walked out when we needed him and any return would hurt morale. Also as you say positionally it isnt quite right either. Dont think we'll be able to get Samba, but then again I wouldnt be too worried about our defence next year, would prefer to make sure we have better cover there, after strikers and a winger of course.

No-one really knows whether he was one of the players that walked out after the horrific Lincoln game - the only 'evidence' was some comments that were posted by a Mackem said to be from Barton posted on April Fools Day. Hardly a reliable source.

I dont blame any player that left after our relegation season - the club was a complete shambles. Kudos to the ones who did, of course.

And yes, I would take him back.

Saw Bassong in his first friendly at Doncaster when KK was here and thougt he played really well.

Pity he chose not to stay. Think he was quite friendly with Oba, saw them shopping together a time or two.

I'm completely on the fence here. Usually against taking back old players but he's a great talent and left for fairly understandable reasons (wanted to start his international career and needed top-flight football for that). I don't think he had any real attitude problem, just put himself ahead of the club which, let's be honest, unless you're a local lad you tend to do.

Bassong and N'Zogbia (with a personality transplant) are two players I'd probably take back but as stated, there's question marks over how it would affect morale.

I wasnt going off those "quotes" just the simple fact he could have stayed, a club cant force a player out if he has a contract.

Walked out on us! Not actually that good either, would want better ability and better personality.

  15. I find it frustrating that Pardew hasn't ever talked about another CB, he's only ever talking about attack

Bassong never handed in a transfer request, we accepted a bid and he accepted terms. He was never going to stay at a Championship club when we'd agreed to sell him to a Premier League team who would quadruple his wages. I'm usually against signing players who have left (N'Zogbia for example) but Bassong and Duff left in completely acceptable circumstances. Of course, Duff burnt those bridges by behaving like a total **** when he scored against us, and I wouldn't want him back because he's ****.

We definitely need one though. Regardless of whether Williamson plays or Taylor, that's our weakest position. Apart from up front of course, but I think it's taken as a given that a striker will be coming in in the summer.

I was talking generally, wasn't aimed at you. <ok>

But who can really blame him? He was our best player, and got a good offer from a big club who had aspirations of Champions League - it was that, or stay at a club who'd a dreadful season, with more managers that hot dinners and had just lost 6-1 to Leyton Orient. As fans, we'd all stay at NUFC, but he doesn't have that same feeling we do.
