I was there, you can tell we tried to play the ball on the ground a lot more but to be fair we did create very little. Yeates did have a great chance to score but missed it. Positively, we did look pretty assured in defence and Almunia looked very assured in goal, great communication and very steady in the six yard box, made a cracking safe in the last ten mins. Overall, we played quite well, the ball was on the ground a lot more than I remember in many Watford games which is encouraging, against championship competition we could be a very neat side indeed! The attacking creativity will come I'm sure! COYH P.S: great ovation for Lloyd, even from the spurs fans
Very boring 1st half.. Brighter 2nd. Didn't look too bad but ofcourse Garner is never going to be a lone striker. Shame not to see more new players and unfortunate one got injured so early.. Hope that isn't an omen! All about Lloyd though.
We already have one player in prison. Should not be encouraging Safe Cracking among the remaining squad....
I would be very surprised if that team today bears any resemblance to a team we put out in the league, tbh. With only one loanee on show, who picked up an injury near the beginning, we basically played our team from last season, and we did well. It's obvious that we've been learning how to play the ball to feet, rather than heads, and it's paying off, giving us more possession, but towards the end of the second half, we got a bit sloppy. Funnily enough i saw it the other way around..the first half had far more about it than the second, and i have to admit, there were a few times that Mr H dozed off...embarrassing that! Some very good performances give me hope for the coming season...and Yeates seems to have improved greatly in the last few weeks...he's had a very good pre-season. Something seems to have clicked with him..it was a shame about his miss today. Gotta say too, that Doyley kept Bale very quiet, he had a great game ...and seemed totally chuffed with his day, which had a great atmosphere, despite a rather dull game..
Glad to see that there was a good turn out for Lloyd, he deserved it. I reckon that he may have benefited from all the changes in the club, even if the team finished up looking rather familiar. Will he be one of those though who could be told that he can look for another club?
I reckon he will be kept this season as decent back up, will be sad when he does finally have to leave us though.
The WO were right to a point as it was probabaly a 60% game which considering it was a Sunday testimonial pre season ealry feeler is not suprising. The thing I noticed was the way we tried and often succeeded to play our way out from the back. The Zola influence was there and I didn't see a lack of confidence but we had no penetration up front and I did wonder where the goals will come from. Overall, for me, 6/10.
Well they won't be coming from Big Chris - not that they really ever did. If the transfer rumours are true, they may flow from DJ Campbell and Spanish Guy though - we can but hope.
