The networks here have started showing the table ranked by silvers so according to that we're well ahead...

In all seriousness I think if we finish below NZ the entire team won't be allowed back in the country.

    Hi Staines
Not around much at mo. Busy at work, trying to finish up before I go off to Beautiful Days, the day I come back from that I am off to do my stint as a gamesmaker driver. It wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't so addicted to the Olympics, I am watching that instead of doing my work work or my wifey housework. I haven't even thought about setting up my fantasy footy team either... a must do job before I go away.

You are going this week aren't you...to see hockey?

I just loved the whole positive attitude about the whole place...so un-British

Fantastic to read your enthusiasm Beth! I'm taking my youngest to Wembley on Tuesday for the football semi between Japan and Mexico. I hope we get a real feel of the Olympics!!

Col, i know you are probably one of the most patriotic on here (In a good way) and if i remember rightly you were very proud over the Jubilee. As i said on the OP, that wasn't for me and TBH meant nothing at all in my mind (each to their own of course)
But after yesterday I'm REALLY getting a buzz over these Olympics and i don't know why . I had no interest in the games 4 years ago in Beijing and hardly watched any of it so it got me thinking why ?
Is it 'cos it's in our home city and therefore so much more in our faces ?
Is it 'cos we are doing well ?
Is it just 'cos i'm in love with Jessica and i want her to have my children :) (But don't tell Mrs Staines)
I really don't know why mate but for sure it's got the whole country buzzing and it's great that the doom mongers were wrong for once and this country has put on a great show from the start...and hopefully to the end.

Yes Beth, Hockey it is on Wednesday and really looking forward to it. Yeah you are right it is so un-british to actually celebrate our country doing something well for a change and everywhere i look there is a buzz about the place
So gutted i can't get to Beautiful days this year but if you see one of my posts previously you might understand why.
When i needed to make a decision to go or not my head was in a different place and i didn't know what i would be doing or where i would be...turns out i could of gone after all as nothing happening till after school holidays.
Oh well....just say hello to Rev D Wayne and L Love for me :)

The so-called footballers should take note and learn from Murray, Farah, et al.

Murray sang the National anthem. Gone up in my estimation.

I reckon we are a very patriotic country and having the games here has really pulled us patriots out of the woodwork!! oh....and hands off Jess....she's mine!! (Even though Mrs rangercol loves pointing out that she's young enough to almost be my grand-daughter!!).

My aversion to the never-ending build up to these Limpiks is well documented here. But, now that it has started, I will freely admit that I've been hooked, particularly by the rowing and enjoy the major athletics events. I'm glad that Andy Murray is British again (until he loses again and becomes Scottish once more). I thought the oarsmen and oarswomen were oarsome (soz). Bradders done good on two wheels, but I detest the irresistable Rise Of The Mamils.

One thing that has taken me by surprise, though, is how good Clare Balding is as a broader sports presenter. Compared to the Linekers, Barkers and their ilk, I think she's been excellent.

Hopefully they will leave the olympic park alone now and push the event profiles up in this country
All sport on a level playing field
I ask does British track and field have to keep slumming in at the Crystal Palace? Or is my understanding wrong

Ah I cant say how proud I am to be British - what a night it was yesterday with 3 golds so close together!

    Such an amazing evening!

Loving the Olympics - have a couple of football games this week - Tuesday eve an Thurs eve both at Wembley. Will be my first game at Wembley.

Been in the Olympic park three times now, great to see all the fans from everywhere having a great time in the carnival atmosphere. Sure we're all cheering the British golds, but even when we're beaten the other nations are getting cheered.

Now, I like the confrontational atmosphere at club football, but when I hear national anthems booed by England football fans I find it shameful.

It must be a pleasant shock to some foreign sports fans whose only previous experience of British sports fans are our wonderful English football ambassadors.
