I'm pretty sure they'll jump at that chance <whistle>

So you wouldn't want Villa for Agger on a permanent basis?

I get what you're saying but after watching Spain play in the Euro's, they definitely miss him so he clearly does something right. Shame about his age though.

Dunno why we're discussing this, it aint gonna happen <laugh>

There's no doubt that he's a great player, but who knows what he'll be like post injury, and he's getting on in years anyway.

At 25 he was a goal-machine with the world at his feet.

Thought we were supposed to be planning for the future. Are loan deals really planning for the future? Loan deals are for short term (by there very nature obviously) and are more about plugging gaps rather than building a young, vibrant and talented squad.

Get loan players in and they have a good season then they either return to their club or we end up paying more. If they have a **** season then it's just a waste of time and a squad place. It can also shunt the younger players back down the pecking order. Personally I'd rather we were either buying players or blooding the youngsters rather than filling gaps with loan players.

Maybe Villa in his prime. But for my money Agger one of the very best defenders in the world. So on that basis, no Thanks. But don't get me wrong would love Villa, just not at the expense of Agger.

If loan players get us Champion's League then we'll have a much better future than otherwise.

Two ways of looking at it. Get a couple of players in on loan to help push for Champions League football while our youth prospects (Suso, Sterling. Widsom) can go on loan to another team to help their development. This way, it doesn't stunt our youth as they get more first team football albeit at a lower level.

Or, get loan deals in but with a clause that we can buy at the end for a certain amount if they are successful. This way, we can do what AC & Juve did to us with Aquilani, and if they are successful get them in for the long haul, and if not send them back and we haven't wasted mony on a transfer fee.

    think about the word loan... what we are talking about to my mind is someone who is;

    a) not wanted by their own club.

    b) at a club brendan rodgers knows the manager

    c) is in europe

it become rather easy then to think hey he must be talking about a real madrid player... just maybe rodgers might get huguin who we'd all appreciate of course... or maybe god for bid that midfielder we were linked with....

not sure if its in anyway a good idea but hey.....

Or not ready for there own club.

But as this thread has already discussed. There are positives to loans.

yes good point. though most spanish "not good enough yet" type players are put out into clubs in spain. i suppose tello might fall into that category but who knows.

27 days to go to ponder or not ponder the actions lfc are taking. rodgers is quite clear though its not just one player he's on about its always plural and it seems he's also agitating slightly for actual progress too. 4 weeks of transfers and two to the footy being back on. methinks the window will get lively for many clubs shortly.... though it does seem like they should just shorten the window down seeing its like an old school f1 qualifying session... no action til the very last minute.

If we can get in some real quality then I'm certainly all for it. If not, then I would question why we could not buy.

I don't understand why there aren't more season-long swaps going on (like Julio Baptista and Jose Antonio Reyes between Arsenal and Real Madrid.) We could say to someone like Barca or Madrid: 'Here's Agger, let's have one of yours for a season.' Or Gerrard, Suarez and Reina - I doubt others would interest the big teams.

Gerard Deulofeu is allegedly available on loan, as is Tello. The latter is likely to be loaned with a view to a permanent deal, too. Two young players who'd improve us.

To me it looks like we are struggling to signing players and refusing to be robbed.

What if the loans are there to fill the gap until we can sign Swansea players.
