Stupid arrogant footballers who stop mid-way in their run up, utterly stupid. I think I might just boo thoroughly if any Portsmouth player did that.
Because to my eye the professional footballers don't put anywhere near as much effort into their olympic matches as every other olympic athlete and it cheapens the spectacle.
I find that so annoying too. If we would have won a medal then everyone would have been really supportive of Olympic football and would be saying how great it is. But now that we are out, loads of people are against it. We had quite a tough group and beat Uruguay, who are a really good side and were one of the favourites. So we didn´t do THAT bad for it to be considered a fiasco.
Yep completely. The fickle nature of the general public at its finest - one lethargic performance and suddenly Olympic football needs to go.
Can you imagine the reaction of the these fickle people if we did what Spain did?...They didn´t even score a goal in the 3 games they played (and they had a few world cup and european cup winners in their team!). ...When you think about it, we actually didn´t do too badly at all. However, some people seem to be disgraced with the team, manager and the tournament in general. I just don´t get how football fans wouldn´t want football in the Olympics!?
Personally, I have grown disillusioned with football which is a feeling that proceeds the Olympics. It just seems represent all the worst aspects of human nature.
Look at Portsmouth's owners, I think they definitely represent the worst aspects of human nature - greed, dishonesty etc
Greed, arrogance, cheating, selfishness, corruption, egotism, tribalism, hatred, lack of morals, etc Football has it's good aspects of course, but it just seems to be increasingly lost in the sea of ****e that football has become.
You do, but in the world of football it seems to be magnified, perhaps due to the massive amount of media coverage it gets. As Mr. Nice says, the whole issue with Portsmouth over the last few years has a lot to do with it, but my disillusionment isn't just based on that. You have players like John Terry, Suarez, Joey Barton, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, you have players who are wholly motivated by greed, players who dive and feign injury, there's the whole financial situation of football in general, there's corrupt organisations like the FA, and FIFA, you have Rangers fans sending death threats to Neil Lennon, and fans having petty arguments over pointless issues and the general hatred that exists between sets of fans, the amount of rubbish on the Portsmouth news site.....
People kill each other over religion, and that's even more pointless than football. Some people are just really stupid.
It is, but I can't help feeling that despite it being a game, the game of football at a professional level represents the worst aspects of human nature
