Today I have finally reached the milestone most of you reached ages ago (/after about 3 days of Not606...), but for which I have worked towards tirelessly (/used as procrastination and inadvertently ended up on this figure) for a year <party>

In honour of this, I would like to devote my novelty thread to a Newcastle vs Mackem love-in, whereby comments commending the better qualities of the other half and their homeland are welcomed, together with any humorous stories or inner man/lady-feelings you might want to add <ok>

The other threads are for banter, and letting out your freudian suppressed sexual attraction in little bursts of vitriol (a word I only came across when I'd been on original 606... for a day) this one is for respect and acknowledgment...

Oh, and rep will be apportioned to the better efforts... <whistle>

And I believe this is in order:

You asked for a list of reasons why I think we'll finish above you...

    Because I'm wrong.

Now now Tash... You know there's something about Sunderland you admire.

The youth system, the banter, the manager, the sports facilities... And there are many more candidates <ok>

Despite being a whingy, childish, lying little prick, in terms of getting people to play to their maximum potential, I have to admit martin O'neill is fantastic :(

I know most disagree with me, but I just love living in the North East, and Sunderland and Mackem mates come into that. There are some quality Sunderland fans on here as well who are knowledgeable and well worth a conversation from time to time. Disco and Mushy the best among them in my opinion.

True enough some of them have the intellect of a squirrels anus in winter (check out billforenglands response to my thread on their board for a hilarious example <laugh>), but I could name a number of Geordies I know who also fit into that category.

Sometimes I just feel we take the other half for granted, hate them due to some bitter prejudice, and I think the resentment is destructive as much as anything else. The rivalry between the two clubs is outstanding, but I'd rather we were both doing well than seeing them struggle, personally. Derbies are better when you feel a twinge of nerves before the game, because your mates on the other side could just as likely be jubilant at full-time.

On old 606 I posted about Sir Bobby's spirit for the north east, and both sides were incredibly respectful to each other on it. It's a shame a great man has to die before some people put their bitterness away from an hour or so.

one of the fittest lasses I ever met was born and bred mackem

if i was in some remote and exotic place and I met a mackem I would feel very much at home and I'm sure it (he / she) would be great craic

i've always felt we couldn't live without each other, as who the f*k would be our rivals ? boro ? lol

I think Newcastle for a night out is fantastic, it has been 10 years + now though since i have been out up there, live on Teeside now and trying to get the **** out, depressing. I have never actually lived in Sunderland though, My Dad was the Sunderland fan, Mam lived in Blyth, had me, lived in Blyth for years.

I do hate your team when its doing better than us (so that is most of the time in recent history lol) but I have nothing at all against the fans or the City like some over on our board, life is far too short for hatred, not ****ing worth it if you ask me.

Great post mate! I'm not one for the clubbing malark, but I'm told Sunderland has a decent nightlife too

Welcome to our humble board BCS, got posters on here that come from the Blyth area.

Hope you pick some welcoming rep up while you're here. Can't give you any myself as I gave you some earlier.

Neither am I now at 40 but in my 20`s i was, I have never actually had a night out in Sunderland so I cant comment at all on what the nightlife is like, I just know at the time Newcastle was voted the 2nd best place to go for a night out after Kingston in some paper or other, so that was good enough for me lol

PS: I used to come over over here a lot, but then the other forum was made, and I am not going to join a toon only forum, so I stopped, maybe this will get me back over here a bit.

<laugh> Most of my friends at Uni came to Newcastle just for the nightlife... Whatever floats your boat... I just liked the idea of walking past St James' everyday... Apparently there's some stuff about academic production and ability we were supposed to take into account too, oh well <whistle>

The lads over here are class <ok>

The Toonforum wasn't for me. Signed up, but when I went on it just wasn't as good as this. Obviously loads left and they must be happy, so good luck to them, but the group we have here are brilliant.

Still go on toon forum now but it's difficult to keep up with the conversation because they post silly amounts.
