Unfortunately there's plenty of rich and silly people out there who support Utd, especially abroard, who will buy useless and worthless shares like their offering so they can feel more of a Supporter and tell their rich friends that they own a part of Man Utd.

It's largely true, H&G ****ed us over big time. Rafa had a real go at building something special and nearly, nearly did it anyway.

The good thing for United is that they bring in far more money than anyone else in the league, they're on another level in terms of commercial deals etc.

You'd think that at some point it'll all go tits up.

Then there'll be a rebuild with salary caps etc. It would have to happen across Europe to actually work though.

rugby league and australian rules over here have salary caps, breach it and you are fined multi mills as a few clubs have found out

That'd be good, but players would probably all move to America, or Asia or something if they wanted big money, which wouldn't be good.

You'd need a UEFA (and the others) official cap for all clubs, plus a ban on bonuses of over a certain amount.

Even then, City could still sign a player, pay them the maximum they can, and buy a toaster off them every week for £200,020.

Ah... I'm a natural cynic so I think the big clubs will still find a way to cheat. Like this FFP thing, it's a joke.

"I think the big clubs will still find a way to cheat".

Do you think a swingeing fine if caught, would act as a deterrent?

    Let's say it's City.

Now, City obviously are spending far beyond their means in terms of transfer fees.

But, the owners are clever - they bought huge amounts of land around the area, and have developed them into hotels, shopping complexes and so on. They have then given these businesses over to the club.

This means that despite the huge outlays in the negative spend column, they are making a large profit in other areas not related to football. When they're audited, they point out that they're actually making money in a sustainable way. This means that they can't be touched, because they're not spiralling into debt, and they're not running at a huge loss.

Even if a team like PSG could be caught, they still have 4 years to stop what they're doing and show a change in attitude. So they can essentially get a great squad ready for when they can't spend - like Chelsea are doing, and City did.

FFP is a media exercise from UEFA, they know fine rightly they can't stop the big clubs - and they need the big clubs - because they rely on the Champion's League for revenue.

That's the general idea, others could explain it much better than me.

EDIT: The only thing that would help would be a straight points deduction. Saying that, the constant punishments probably haven't helped Portsmouth.
