What?

West Ham have bought:

Modibo Maiga - £4.7m
James Collins - £2.5m
George McCartney - £2m
Mohamed Diame - FREE
Jussi Jaaskelainen - FREE

Only £9.2m.

Gazzaniga was supposedly £2m-£2.5m, and Davis wasn't free either.

So we've spent at least £10m.

We've spent more than them so how are they 'throwing money out'?

Where has the figure of £2.5m for Gazzaniga come from? Did I miss that one?

Also I think it's common knowledge that the contracts West Ham have been offering their players are substantially higher than those Cortese has sorted for Southampton so whilst the initial outlay may be higher, the deals are cheaper in the long run.

Wolves have made Christophe Berra available for transfer as he only has 1 year left on his contract and wants to leave. Would be quite cheap and, obviously, he plays the position we need the most. Possible target for Saints?

From the Medway Sports News dept. Kent news.

I'm not arguing about wages. I was debating RLGB saying WH are "throwing money out" on transfers.

If you have to resort to assuming deals are cheaper because of contract nuances then you can't claim superiority over spending less. It's far from significant enough to accuse West Ham of throwing money about.

Not bad, I'd take him.

Ohh really? That's a surprisingly high figure, especially for a 'keeper! Sorry if it seemed accusatory, that wasn't the intention; I've been away from the site for a while and must have missed the news.

I didn't actually accuse West Ham of "throwing money about", that was another user. I was merely pointing out that West Ham haven't acted with as much financial care as their transfer fees may suggest.

Wouldn't quite call that "claiming superiority"?

Similarly I was referring to the common argument of "they throw money about" (which is undoubtedly claiming superiority) not being dispelled by the general argument used in your post, rather than accusing you of claiming it yourself.

Okay, if that is the case, then I apologise for the misunderstanding.

However, I'm not 100% convinced that you were "referring to the common argument" considering you directed your disagreement at myself specifically despite not making the statement you were referring to.

To be honest, it just seems like a case of mistaken identity with only one of us man enough to apologise

It was a general response to your statement, which was a general argument, rather than you personally, I don't know why you want to take it so personally but hey ho, if you wish then you win. Well done :)

Much as would want to talk up a Scottish player, no thanks. He just doesn`t dominate. Better off with Martin, in my opinion, and certainly not better than Jos or Fonte.

Lens would be a great signing, but I think the 10 million they want is a bit high personally, but would show great ambition if we splashed out that sort of money.
