Gervinho - Is anyone here having second thoughts about him?

  1. I've given up on Sturridge. He looks like a crackin player and is showing he can score at this level. However, i reckon Chelsea won't let him go. I was suggesting a bid of 10 mil.

My choice would be Ba now, but we'll just have to see who Pardew buys.

And btw, Sturridge isn't less proven, he's shown he can play in this league, Gervinho has shown he can play in the French league.

Anyway, that's not the point, i wouldn't have suggested 15m quid bids for Sturridge. 10m would have been a reasonable price for a kid that has shown he can score goals.

Agree, another stupid article with no hard evidence to support it

  3. No evidence?? What ****ing evidence am i supposed to give?

I don't judge players on youtube montages, but i bet that's how most people do it.

I've watched plenty of Lille matches since we've been interested in him over p2p, and other online football channels, and i think he's a class player, but not worth the high amounts people have been suggesting.

Sturridge has scored 21 career goals, thats in 5 years, he could just as easily be in good form for Bolton. He has not shown he can keep it up over a number of seasons, which is proving yourself. 6 goals in 8 games is good form, not proof of anything. We arent just not going to sign any foreign players just because they havent proven it in England, the only way they can prove themselves is to play in England. 20 million is too much for Gervinho IMO but we dont know that that is the fee, we dont even know if he is interested in us anyway. A fan saying he would pay 20mil on a player doesnt mean anything in terms of the transfer.

And Ba is good but I think we're getting carried away with this idea, we wouldnt even have a chance unless West Ham go down, and even then I doubt we would actually go for him given that we are scouting France, Belgium, Holland etc for our new striker(s). Best is a similar player to Ba and can do a similar job IMO.

  6. That isnt my point. It's not JUST because they haven't proven it in this league, it's the amount we end up paying taking the risk on him.

Our track record of buying from abroad is pretty ****e. Im just scared of the risk that's all, we need to spend our money carefully.

True but I trust Carr's judgement and we really have done our homework on Gervinho, even talking to his former manager. Plus he's Tiote recommended ;)

Which reminds me, most of our best players are foreign; Tiote, Colo, Enrique, Ben Arfa, Jonas

  8. STOP..... Tiote recommended?

Ok lets sign him, NOW!!! Any arguement to the contrary is futile and major health risk...

To be fair Tash, my first question to you is...Where have you seen him? If you watch Ligue 1, for how long? I'm not slating your opinion, but at the end of the day, for an opinion to be credible it has to be based in fact!

Agreed. Case closed. When asked who he recommends from the Ivory Coast, he said:

"I have two names. The first is Gervinho, who plays for Lille as a forward or winger. He is really good, 23 years old and a great player. The other is Seydou Doumbia of CSKA Moscow. He's a striker and he's a great prospect."

Look how long has Carr been, was listening to Hughton on Talksport and Keegan brought him in. Out of all the transfers brought in from abroad the only letdown has been Xisco. All the rest have been youngsters on trial who we had the options on but turned down apart from Vuckic and Bassong.

Now if you think theres been alot in the past, Guivarch, Andersson, Boumsong, who if we have had the scouting network we have now them would never have come near the club.

So I trust Carr from the deals with the likes of Tiote, Arfa, Guti, Bassong, Colo. To be left to do his job and if Gervinho costs so much then whos to say we dont have another similar player in the fold to come in

  12. p2p and online football channels mate <ok>

You can always find Ligue 1 matches.

I've watched about 7/8 matches now and i'm still watching. I also tried to find a Club Brugge match to see Vargas lol, but streams always **** up.

And to be fair Xisco is pretty good in spain, scored again today but just didnt adapt. I still think we didnt give him a real chance though.

And Sturridge would probably be just as big a gamble as Gervinho as he's only played 8 games for Bolton, which ids the only regular football he's had. I'm not doubting his potential to be a top class striker but would cost a lot as he's English and I doubt Chelsea would sell.

I agree with Tash. Unless we can get him cheap, consistent, proven PL performers please pardew (nice bit of alliteration there). I'm thinking Ba, Samba, and Downing.

And I cant see Ba happening, plus I think Best is a similar player who can do the same job but save us the fee.
