I think the common consensus on here is that FFC don't need another winger, even if Dempsey leaves. We have Duff, Davies, Kaka, Frei and Ruiz who can all play there. Wolves have denied we've made a bid anyway. I'd much prefer we signed a central midfielder (Murphy, Gecov and Etuhu all gone) and a centre forward (Sa, Pog, AJ gone) before we move onto wingers.
Did very well at Watford last season, and showed promise when he came back for the run-in. I think he'll be a hit.
We'll need to wait and see how Jol plays Ruiz, I've not seen many of the pre-season matches, but I reckon he might be pushed forward for the next season. In him prime, Davies was a better player than Jarvis, now though- I'd be happy for us to take Jarvis and let Davies move on. Duff will be used sparingly in the next season- I don't think he has the legs for 38+ games. It's definately not a priority- but I wouldn't be upset if Jarvis came on board, he looks a handy player.
I also rate Jarvis and at say £5m I think it would be a good bit of business. However, Davies and Duff will be here next season along with Frei and Kaka, all of whom have enough ability to be important players for us next season. Bringing in Jarvis could mean the progress of Frei and Kaka stagnates.
True- as much as I rate Frei, he's not a dead on starter for each game. My seat overlooks the left wing in the second half; atm he is too one dimensional for opp defenders to not figure him out. Give him the left flank and close off his options to cut in. If we shift him the right he may be more effective. I think we get a bit caught up in the fact he's come through our academy. He's got a great chance of developing into a very good PL player but he needs to work on his left foot and his confidence in using it. I've not seen enough of Kaca in the PL to make a judgement, I do think it's a bit early for us to pin hopes on them. Cameo roles for the next season would do a lot for their development, along with a run in the LC team. Davies may well be moved to centre now that Murphy has gone.
It's always a bit hit and miss with youngsters. Besides the Fulham academy is one of the best in the UK now, so who knows if Kaca would have fulfilled his potential with Liverpool (no offence). I do feel we need another winger if/when Dempsey goes. Duff and Davies are veterans, Kaca and Frei are novices. We have no-one except Bryan Ruiz in between and I suspect he'll see a more forward role this season. Jarvis for £5m would be a good deal, although I'm not sure we could get him that cheap.
Now come on, just because you didn't do very well with him at the helm, doesn't mean a bad call is "typical of Roy". In fact, it's the total opposite.
He's going to be our new Graham Leggat. NI, as you probably know we're in the same U21 League group as you guys. Did L'pool get Academy Category 1 Status confirmed ?
I take your point that the Konchesky deal was hardly Roy's finest hour, but if I remember rightly at the time Liverpool needed a left back and he had very limited resources with which to buy one and Konch had done well for him at Fulham. I also remember that at the time the player most Liverpool fans were up in arms about losing was Lauri Della Valle. He may yet prove to be a success, but the signs so far are that LDV isn't quite going to make the grade. And I'm not convinced Kaca would have had the chances he's had at Fulham had he stayed at Anfield. He's promising, but not yet the finished article, for which reason I'd be happy to see Jarvis at the Cottage, although not for silly money.
Clint Dempsey and the latest rumour http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-could-lose-out-to-roma-1217465 Since I've pretty much resigned to losing him, I'll not comment except to say that after today's game Dembele must stay.
Very much in agreement with what you said Cottager, but today a new name came up on the rumor mill. Roma, who it also stated, would match our 10m valuation. I fell this move should it happen could satisfy all parties concerned on 3 counts. Firstly we get the valuation fee we have set Demps would not be going to a premiership rival. And I think from his point of view, he would have more chance to fulfill, his European cup aspirations. "Whatever" this saga has somewhat dragged on,so lets move on, sell, and buy a decent replacement before all the talent has gone elsewhere.
I agree Ros. It's gone on far too long now; if Dempsey wants to go, ship him to Roma for £10m and spend £12m on Rhodes & Jarvis (or similar).
With the way things are shaping up Dempsey wouldn't be a huge loss, as much I like and rate him. Dembele on the other hand..
Obviously, I want Dempsey to stay. But if he is to go, I want it to happen now rather than in 4 weeks and I would rather it was abroad rather than another Premiership team. If teams like Liverpool are going to try and bully us into accepting a lower fee, I'd rather he went to Italy for that lower fee.
Ironically Roma and Liverpool have the same owners through the Fenwick Group. Will they be bidding against each other ?
How ironic that Liverpool buying a player from Roma would give Roma the funds to gazzump them for Dempsey
Jarvis and Fletcher Wolves left both players out of yesterday's friendly against Southampton and manager Solbakken pretty much admits that on there way out of the club. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4471986/Southampton-2-Wolves-0.html
