Was reading in the papers today that Bradley Wiggins has ben criticised by some people for being drunk last night. To be honest, if you've just won a gold medal on top of winning the Tour de France and becoming Britain's most decorated olympian, you wouldn't be doing much else! For christ sake the bloke deserves it after what he has achieved, these people need to stop being killjoys.

The way he trains and the avoidance of alcohol - I'd guess it'd not take much drink to affect him.

The stadium is packed and the crowd are going wild for our track and field athletes. Jess Ennis looked so nervous at the start of her hurdles and so tiny compared to the other girls, thought the roar of the crowd might make her falter but my god did she go. COME ON JESS

Great crowd inside the stadium on day 1.

Yamile Aldama qualifies for the womens triple jump final, coming in 2nd place in the heats/ qualifiers.

    Good start. Keep it up.

Why are British heptathletes always good looking? Our normal female track and field stars are a bit ropey but they're always worth watching -
Kelly Sotherton (dynamite), Denise Lewis, Jess Ennis and now the 2 other girls today (KJT asnd t'other one) are all very dooable.

In contrast, the Papa New Guinean female 100m runner looks like Stanley Gene.

Piers Morgan seems to be a tad frustrated on twitter with athletes not singing the national anthem

Yes. Great effort. Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins did a great job. Well done girls.

Jessica Ennis also started off superbly in the Heptathlon with a best time and race win in the 100m hurdles.

Great stuff at the rowing 1 gold and 2 bronze medals.

Always thought rowing was a toff sport but you have to give credit to them for putting everything into it. Half of them can't sit up after finishing.

That really pisses me off. Singing or not singing the national anthem has zero link to lack of patriotism. I'm as patriotic as it gets but I would never sing the anthem as I am a republican and despise the royal family and all it stands for. I therefore cannot sing our anthem, but if it was Land of Hope and Glory I definitely would.

And surely the whole point of our perceived freedom, the wars we fought in and what we widely believe in as a nation is that we can make choices such as whether to sing the anthem or not. If Morgan et al dont like freedom of choice then move to ****ing China.

Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy have been slaughtered by some of the media for not singing. Its upto the individual.
