We were linked to him ages ago, might have even been before he joined Lyon. Never seen him play but from the sounds of it he's great going forward but defensively suspect so I guess he might be better off as a winger. I can't help but feel that we're being linked to him based solely on the tenuous Porto connection again.
We were linked to Cissokho a couple of years ago, but nothing came of it (and nobody came in for him since) Anyway, we have cover for Benny - Naughton (and Fryers*) can both play left back, so we can save the money (somewhere between £5m and £7m) and add it to the striker fund, or bringing in a keeper.
i think we should throw Bale at left back if we play a high lne as it means he is starting position is not too far back from the middle..and he can carry on attacking from there...and maybe give onw of our wingers a try there...all this if Benny goes to the ACON.....before i get accused of benny bashing. for me it is a better option than signing another bench warmer or smeone with a fancy name. and nice of Pienaar to be gracious as he left..he suffered due to Arry's blinkers. as for who we are signing..i havent got a jiffy....it has all gone typically quiet.....so i have become typically pessimistic.
I know something along these lines has already cropped up, but I really think that if Adebayor doesn't happen you could do a lot worse than get Berbatov back, all the things I am reading about you needing a centre forward who can hold the ball and link play and score from crosses, he ticks all the boxes, and with time running out before the season starts at least he would hit the ground running (well as much as he ever runs), I know lots of you will be shoot me down for saying this, but if not Adebayor (and not Berbatov) do you have any other realistic targets with Prem league experience?
i dont like the way he behaved in getting his move....if we did et him id forgive him if he got us 20 plus..if he flopped id be abusing him..just the way i feel about this...a case of..just want to use him as a stepping stone till we got our much coveted NEW STRIKER for he long term.
Well we're all aware of the striker situation. Good to see that AVB is aware of it too - http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11675/7956895/Villas-Boas-considers-options
Bale is going to be a busy boy this season. So far we have him playing as NEW STRIKER, left wing and left back. PNP I agree we could do with cover for Benny but that is way way down the list of priorities! I would take Berbatov back in an instant. I know he behaved like a pr*ck but he was absolute class. He could potentially fit in perfectly in the new system AVB is trying to bring in.
Vertonghen can also move across to LB if required - its not as if we are short of CB cover this year: Kaboul, Dawson, Caulker, Gallas....... And that's assuming that Bassong will be on his way. Berb was a class act, one of the most singularly talented footballers to have ever graced our club. But I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole now. a) I don't think he's the player he was and b) I don't believe that his attitude would help build spirit.
SSN are linking us to this guy, now!.. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11675/7959096/Spurs-linked-with-Rondon
At this point I've stopped trying to find anything about strikers we're linked to. It doesn't matter whether they're any good we just need someone!
He's only good for 12 goals a season, and he doesn't create goals - if he was an option from the bench I'd be fine with that, but that still means we need another striker.
Really no point in signing someone who is not a lot better than VdV, Defoe, Dos Santos and Kane. That means someone like Ade or better.
quote 1 - from "another day goes by....." thread quote 2 - agreed, but in order to get that player who is better than those you name, that means we have to spend the money, which could be wasted money. unfortunately we have to take that risk and pay it in order to get someone who's top class. the kind of strikers we need (considering that we're building for the future and they''ll need to be youngish) will cost that sort of money. it's about time we made that aggressive move, or it's stalemate.
There's a plethora of strikers better than GDS and Kane, whilst Defoe doesn't naturally fit into our system. We need a striker who is experienced, can hold the ball up and preferably has a bit of pace. It's not asking a lot but until we get at least one striker we're going to be left very short upfront and with a lesser strike force than nearly all of the rest of the league.
We`ve sold Keane, Crouch and Pav and are yet to replace them. We must have money available for a top forward, unless its all being pumped into the stadium.
whether this is true or not, it's another typical type of player that we're being linked to. around the 7-10mill mark, loads of potential, but solves nothing right now and could be a waste of money that we should be using towards getting top quality right now, IMO.
Roo - I agree with all you have said on this thread. We've done the buy young and hope for potential route a few years back and we now have some real gems. This isn't the time for that its the time to really consolidate ourselves in the top 4. Come on Spurs sort out the Adebayor deal and then superstar striker in by next weekend. Simple. Well I can dream!
