if Ade was serious about moving to us he would drop his financial demands a bit,the sort of pay he get's he's well off.
I'm getting more than a little pissed off with, and losing all respect for Mr Adebayor. He seems far more intent on exacting revenge on Mancini and Man City, and lining his own already well filled pockets, than he does with where he's going to play football. If that's his attitude, he can **** off, quite frankly.
Some of the rumours going around on Twitter and ITK sites are saying that the only reason Ade wants this £5m payoff is not for his own pocket but to go straight towards his charities out in Africa. Ade does do a hell of a lot charity work like Drogba so I reckon there could be a bit of truth in that. If that is the case, I can't blame the guy for standing his ground. I just really hope it's sorted out quickly and a compromise is met.
That's it, though - it's all rumours! Whether it's Ade's own personal terms for himself or charity, Citeh prevarication or Levy's bargaining. It is frustrating for us fans, but based on how he performed for us last year I will wait for some evidence before aiming my anger at Ade.
I'm not worried but then I don't expect much from this season because of the changes. Nothing to do with how AVB performed at Chelsea but more to do with clubs "building for the future" approach. We won't hit the ground running with a new manager and it will take a season or 2 for Levy to build what he sees as the future for spurs. Yes we need a striker but to buy one for the sake of it is just stupid, and wasting money. Like it or not Levy is trying to prove a point by playing hard ball. This can back fire on us this season but if he holds ground he'll help to kick some footballers mind sets (and clubs) into place which will only be a good thing for football. I've been a spurs fan long enough to know we always do something in the last minute so I'm not going to let it stress me out like seasons gone by. Remember, the season may start in a few weeks but the window doesn't close until later.
So if your employer told you that they were breaking your contract and had got you a job down the road at a lower salary you would just sign up? All Ade is aking for is his contractual entitlement - City seem to want Ade and us to contribute to it.
Because the alternative is to pay too much or sell what we have for too little. Not having a player for a couple of weeks is no big deal. Pouring unnecessary £Ms down the toilet is very wasteful and will destroy our prospects in the long run
We are not talking about moving from £50k a year to £40k, we are talking about someone earning £175k pw moving to £100k pw, with a few Million signing fee thrown in. It would be better for his long term career to move to Spurs from City. So yes, I do expect him to accept a backward step for long term improvement. What salary does he think he will get when his current contract ends. £50/60k would be my bet. Time to call off the deal if this is his attitude.
I wouldn't hire anyone who was prepared to let someone break their contract at a loss. The point is that Ade can get what we think he is worth from us. City owe him the remainder. City have to cave in in the end or they lose everything. It is a no-brainer for Ade to drive the toughest possible bargain and it would reflect badly on him if he didn't.
see my post in either this thread or "tottenham in the summer transfer window" (can't remember which) that refers to getting a balance between spending money over inflated prices, and other factors that are also important. I refer to the fact that it's not just a case of making sure we don't overspend, but also we have to consider the fact that not getting our squad together preseason can be a major negative. scrapping away last minute 2-3 games into the season because we haven't strengthened when we had chance to, is also not acceptable. we put ourselves on the back foot at the start of every season, yet other clubs wrap up their business early on. if we have aspirations of being a regular top 4 club, we cannot do this. Last season for example, we conceded 8 goals in 2 games before parker and Ade came in. 1 point from either of those 2 games and not having a -7 goal difference early on, could have meant we finished 3rd and not 4th. Yes, I know other results throughout the season also come into this, but we could have had a better start, had we made signings earlier. we wouldn't have paid an overinflated price for Parker as west ham went down anyway and he would have made a massive difference,as we witnessed throughout nearly all of last season. - would it really have been difficult to have got him 2 or 2 weeks before we did? I also don't get why we're trying to spend 10 mill on a player like Sturridge or Rondon, when they either aren't good enough or are unproven to the level we are trying to achieve. for me, its a waste of money, when a bit extra can get you some top talent. - that point could co-inside with your comments about pouring money down the drain; it's a slightly different way of looking at things, but definitely falls into the same category. prolific goal scorers cost money. every single team around us currently has them, or has had them and is therefore replacing them. United - Rooney Chelsea - Drogba, Torres (not great so far at Chelsea, but is a proven world class striker) Man city - too many to name Arsenal - RVP - and they've just bought Podolski who has played at every level, as well as Giroud who looks like he could be very useful. - the main point here, is that they've purchased who they need early on and they are getting familiar with their new club. pouring unnecessary millions down the toilet is one thing PS, but at the opposite end of the spectrum if you want set your new boss the task of competing at the top of the premiership you cannot be a tight arse. Levy's a great chairman, but his arrogance really gets in the way sometimes and he doesn't learn from mistakes we've made. then again, if we're happy with a 5th-6 place finish next season, with a hope of potentially getting 4th, then none of the above is relevant. However, with Levy's demands and expectations, I don't think that's the case somehow. his approach has worked 1 season out of the last 3, but that was before City were as strong as they are now. it's even tougher to grab a top 4 spot and we don't appear to help ourselves, despite obvious mistakes.
So I'm the only one that thinks Carroll could work? He's available on a relatively risk-free try before you buy if you believe reports.
Perish the thought of us letting Carroll out to graze on the WHL turf! We had Crouch, who is a better player imo.
I like AC, but wouldn't want him at spurs. As mentioned above, it's back to the days of crouch and long balls over the top.
I can see the benefits of Carroll but I don't really want a Liverpool reject. And the reason why he has become a reject there is that their new manager is trying to play good football and he wouldn't work in that system. It sort of goes against the Tottenham way.
Very good point jack. I see that rondon looks like he's going to rubin Kazan. - although I don't want him and I'm glad it's another average striker with potential that probably won't be joining us; at the same time, all our "targets" are heading elsewhere. Not only do we appear to not be interested in spending on a marquee striker or 2, but even the "potential" young players appear to me making moves! There's going to be no one left at this rate!!
Andy Carroll?? This about says it all... Wednesday 1 August 2012 by Formelia Alberthine Liverpool improve West Ham Carroll offer by agreeing to take him back Liverpool have improved their offer to tempt West Ham into taking British record signing Andy Carroll off their hands for next season by agreeing to take him back at the end of it, according to reports. In an unusual development, the Merseyside giants have recognised their £35 million man has all the sporting potential of the average clothes horse, thus becoming an ideal fit for manager Sam Allardyceâs footballing philosophy. A Liverpool spokesman said, âTrying to get rid of Andy Carroll off our books even as a temporary measure is like trying to secure a seat at the Olympics for the 100m â impossible unless youâre willing to lose a **** load of money.â âIt seems the only sure fire way to get someone to take him from us is to promise they can give him back.â âOf course, if we happen to move stadiums whilst heâs away thereâs always a chance he wonât find us.â Andy Carroll loan move The England international is said to be unhappy with the proposal, citing the steep uplift in the price of a pint of a lager down South as a serious stumbling block to some serious stumbling. âAndyâs very disappointed,â said a spokesperson for the player. âHeâs needs assurances that he will not be ripped off like Liverpool were when they bought him.â Share this story: Related posts: Liverpool to erect statue of Andy Carroll as a replacement for Andy Carroll Liverpool attempt to buy Andy Carroll for the price of ten Andy Carrolls Liverpool disappointed as FA hand Andy Carroll eight-match run in Liverpool side Liverpool replace Andy Carroll with old fridge-freezer Andy Carroll loan availability alerts supermarkets Read more: http://newsthump.com/2012/08/01/liv...r-by-agreeing-to-take-him-back/#ixzz22ZDD3O30
The BBC/Footy Latest say we've missed out on Rondon now that Anzhi have made a bid - as if that's the be all and end all. I have to say, though, it;s not a great loss - he's an impact sub, and we need a first-choice striker before anything else.
Some of the strikers we are being linked with are very uninspiring to say the least, I just hope Levy has a couple of aces up his sleeve.
