No offence taken. As a participant, unless you understand the intricacies and effort put in... because of the high standards of all partricipants at Olympic level/equal ability, it can look like people in pyjamas putting down their pillows and grappling, but it is what is...a very tough and physical martial art. Try it and see!

PS Yuko is the minor score for throwing someone onto their side. If you manage to get them plum on their back...it's game over (ippon). Ippon can also be scored by pinning the opponent flat on their back for 30 seconds (as opposed to 3 in the joke of WWE) or by arm locking/strangling the opponent until they submit/break their arm or pass out. Here endeth the lesson!

Trust me mate, the fitness I got training for competitive Judo allowed me to run rings round people in football and rugby ...I just didn't have the skills required to excel at either ball games!

Try 'cuddling' Gemma Gibbons for 5 seconds and see where that gets you!

Fair enough. I'm sure it is tiring and if I tried I'd be knackered after 30 seconds, however still do think for something that lasts 5 minutes you should see a lot more action. Surely if you win by pinning someone for 30 seconds (which seems an awful long time) you just get a really fat person and get them to sit on them <whistle>

Also! They seem to run out of the scoring area a lot and for some reason you don't get any points if you land on your face!

I thought it looked tiring, didn't know what the **** was going on though. But knew when to jump and a yell when she beat that French girl in the Semis.

I know ... but couldn't let it go unresponded. Minority sports have it tough enough (but some would argue they're minority for a reason!!)

Funnily enough.... I used to have to fight FAT people in open weight categories twice the weight of me.... you didn't want them lying on you for sure, but speed and getting low body position underneath their gut ... and gravity does the rest ..easy!

Nothing worse than being held down for 30 seconds with a fat, stinky armpit over your face to help you learn not to let them do it again! I used to fight guys who deliberately would never wash their competition judogi (judo suits) to allow that extra defensive quality of 1 years BO build up :emoticon-0119-puke:

  8. I actually have a few mates that do Judo too <ok>

As someone said above, it's not the most exciting for spectators though <ok>

I'm getting into Handball. It's fast and furious. You appear to be able to knock people over. To play goalie you need to be demented! But it's FUN
