Could be a change in fortune for you guys, I can remember we always used to be unlucky before Brendan brought us the luck of the Irish
Positives 1. We won 2. Sterling got his longest run out to date 3. Lucas got more time under his belt 4, We have quality players, (Reina, Suarez and Agger) to come in. 5. Looked better as we progressed through the game Negatives 1. Looked dodgy at the back 2. No game time for Shelvey 3. many of the things talked about...(pass and move/7 second regain possession) just didnt happen 4. Created little.. All in all we won and ill take that
Fair summary, lads. Hopefully this season will be like this game: we'll play worse, create less, but score more and win more. The opposite of last season.
The lack of keeping the ball royally bothers me. Seeing Carra and Jones pass it to each other, until they get boxed into the corner, for Jones to hoof it, and give it away, repeatedly, bothers me. Slow sloppy passing that is easily cut out, bothers me. On the plus side, Adam never got a game!
You were very very poor and dont forget FC Gomel got beat at home in the last round V Renova 1-0 so not the best game to judge, but like you say a game in the bag for Borini, Gerrard, Downing and Johnson but even with a team as fit as Gomel id expect Liverpool to beat them 2 or 3 nil, in the same Qualifying round last year Buraspor beat them 3-1 at their ground last year and Liverpool are 10 times a better team then them. So all in all Im not sure how I judge how you lot did, I mean it wasnt the flowing football I expected but win and a clean sheet is a positive.
Not liking the fact we don't have our main players back yet as am excuse to why we played poor. Suarez is the only player who would of made an impact, Agger and Pepe, given their quality, wouldn't add to the attack. The players on show should of stepped up and were average.
Thats definately where we miss Agger...Was hoping to see Carra as a first team coach by the end of the summer, therefore him and Brendan could sit and talk footballing philosophy until the early hours and let the team get on and play
But if the players in defence are of better quality, it not only breeds confidence from the back but also encourages the players further forward to attack more knowing the quality behind them. It is not always about individual talent, it is a team game and each player is a cog in the machine, you are only as strong as your weakest link
Teams don't play at the same level in every game you know. Smaller teams usually raise their games, and level of effort, against a massive team like Liverpool.
