In League One. The quality is a long, long, long way below the Premiership.
With the hype that surrounds him, Rhodes isn't going to be cheap anyway.

I love how opinions changed about Carroll the day he left. He went from everyone thinking he was destined for great things to 50% saying "ah he's not that good, he mad eus play long ball, blah blah" Its a crock of ****e. He's still a top striker despite a rough season and we should be doing all we can to get him here.

The only concern I'd have about Carroll is whether he buckles under the pressure of coming back. He clearly hasn't really handled it at Liverpool. Before he left he was at about the same level as Ba is, and would be a great addition to the squad.

But you said that you (as a club) should do ANYTHING to get him back. So I tell you what, I knock the price down <ok>

34.9m and it's a done deal! Come on, the deals too good to resist right?! <ok>

This is one of those subjects that there is not real way of resolving, unless some very odd euro league were formed where CC teams played dutch ones) but I am very much not convinced. As the last season showed us, the best CC teams are capable of finishing mid table in the Prem.

Even if we assume that the best Dutch teams are of Prem quality, that actually makes taking a player from a good dutch club more unreliable - - we will be judging him on results obtained with good support against poor opposition. I think it has more to do with the percepion that foreign players are exotic and unknown whereas CC players are just like the dross most EPL fans support, except a bit worse.

Doesn't matter what league its in. He is a goal scorer. Might not be as prolific in the prem but he would do a job. He would cost about £6m I reckon. Maybe £1m either side.

The league matters. Chopra set the CC on fire.

As did Beckford, Nugent, etc. The only players to have made a success in the CC and Prem in recent times are Holt and Carroll. That's probably down to their more physical style tho.

The league matters hugely. Against PL quality defenders he won't have as much time to get in good positions, and against PL quality keepers you can expect a lot more of his shots to be saved.
The other two posters gave good examples of this, and those were with players from the Championship, which is a huge step up from L1 anyway.

Edit: My mistake - Beckford was a great L1 striker, who turned into a **** PL striker.

Yee hah. Unfortunately we have a crafty cockney in charge and not some crazy american who couldn't put a price on a loaf of bread.

I said "all we can" not anything. All we can does not involved letting you give us a pumping just because we gave you one last January! 15m and even then we're overpaying.

Rickie Lambert didn't find the step up from League 1 to the Championship a challenge. Now that would be a bloody good signing.
