A bronze would be an exceptional achievement by the GB lads. It's heartening for home nations football that they are capable of playing a good game. I've been pleasantly surprised by GB men and women during the tiournament.
Luis Suarez is apparently angry at British fans booing during Uruguay's national anthem - oblivious to the fact it was only when his face was on the big screen. He also claims that; "they jeer me and they boo me here because they must be scared of facing a player like me. They fear me, but that doesn't affect me."1 Oh dear Luis, oh dear.
Could it be that we don't actually like him or his play acting, good enough footballer but not always honest?
How do I hate Suarez? Let me count the ways: 1) His complete and utter arragonce (the post from Jake's just one example) 2) The fact that he's a racist twat 3) His cheating Ghana out of a win in the World Cup by playing goal keeper 4) His sheer audacity to boast about cheating Ghana in the aforemention match by claiming to have made 'The save of the tournament' and that 'The hand of God now belongs to me' 5) His tendency to dive Frankly Suarez is one of the most despicable and dis-likable footballers in the entire Premiership (and there are a lot of dis-likable footballers in the Premeirship) along with Joey Barton. Anyhow, does anyone know what time GB Women play tomorrow?
Suarez possibly isn't all that racist. He said something which isn't even considered unacceptable in South America, so there's a good chance he just didn't realise it could cause offence. I also can understand the handball incident, considering it was either that or get knocked out of the World Cup. Still a dick though.
The handball in the world cup was a brilliant piece of football. He did what he did knowing that he'd be suspended for the rest of the tournament and that they had a great chance of scoring anyway, he knew what the punishment would be, but he did it anyway for the sake of winning the game for his country. I've no problems whatsoever with that.
I never knew knowingly cheating could be considered brilliant football. Does that mean when Ashley Young dived against QPR last season to get a penalty for Man U, it was also brilliant football?
No, because that was dishonestly trying to break the rules and get away with it. Nothing dishonest in what Suarez did. He was willing to sit out the rest of the tournament just to give one very slight chance to Uruguay, I'd have personally been upset had an England player not done the same thing.
Exactly. He weighed up the options in a split second and decided that it was the best decision. Justice technically was done, as he received the appropriate red card from the referee. His intention was never to deceive. I don't really think it was cheating per se, just an undesirable part of the game.
It's pretty naive to think Suarez wasn't hoping that the handball wouldn't have been seen (especially as this was before extra officials were placed on the goal line) which has certainly happened on previous occasions. At the end of the day, the intention was the same as Young just he knew he was taking a substantially bigger risk. It's understandable, yes, but it shouldn't be praised.
If you're trying to say he was trying to deceive everyone and hope nobody saw the handball then I think you're allowing your hatred of Suarez to blind your judgement.
At the end of the day, it's only the linesmen and referee that he needed to make sure didn't see the handball as they would have to see the handball to be able to give the penalty, in a situation like that (with lots of players in the box) it is feasible even if I didn't come off that time. But as I said, it should not be praised, not for one second.
I'm happy to praise him for it. He made the right decision. If someone on a team I was supporting had the opportunity I'd be very disappointed if they decided against it. Dadadadadadadada Luis Suarez!
No more than a lot of other players these days, yet Suarez still gets more vitriol directed towards him because he's an easy target.
