rather have Jordan Rhodes to be honest

also noticed on football manager the Carroll has a 25% sell on fee! so surely if we paid 20mil we'd only be paying 15

Remy? we could have bidded more for De Jong, Cisse we got for 9 million, Ba free, i know i am using some old transfers there but i have faith in Carr that he could find us a better striker with that money. I personally dont rate Andy Carroll that highly and think 15 million is overpriced for him

I reckon it would be great if he came back.

He'll be so motivated to prove everyone wrong, I imagine he'll absolutely work his socks off for the team.

He's had a taste of what else is on offer, head turned by agents & hype....and seen it's not always all that.
I think he'll be re-invigorated to come back to St James Park and try and emulate Shearer. He's a Geordie after all, so he understands what that really means.

And from a football point of view, he's not just the lump it from the back player he's made out to be. He would give us an extra option, different kind of striker to what we've got.
    Infact: clever poaching from Ba
    flair volleys from Cisse
    physical headers from Carroll
    speed dribbles from Ben Arfa
    (and Ameobi as backup)
would make up one of the strongest, best combination strikeforces in the league.

Personally, I agree with this. There are thousands of strikers out there, and I doubt very much that the scouting network will have identified just one or two to bid for. Carroll to me represents the back-up option, because we know what he's about and he apparently wants to come back, which is half the battle.

If we ran out of targets, that's when I'd imagine we'd put up a massive offer for Carroll.

The biggest problem for me with Carroll isn't necessarily his ability and worth of a certain price tag, because he does have potential, but that he struggled under a massive transfer fee to Liverpool, and it could easily happen to us if we paid a lot too. I really don't want to see him back struggling to find goals, or disrupting club harmony because he's under pressure...

I'm not questioning whether or not Andy Carroll is a good player and his potential value to us as a squad player. My point is that for the outlay, I reckon we could bring in 2 players who would improve us as a squad much better than Andy Carroll would. Someone suggested Jordan Rhodes. A signing like that would be excellent and would probably leave £6m-£8m in the kitty for another player. Regardless what we sold him for, £15m is still a huge chunk to blow on a position that we aren't exactly weak in.

Remy would be better for our passing style, but I certainly wouldn't rate him as MUCH better than Carroll.

I don't like this idea that Carroll only scored 12 goals in half a season with us because our system was TOTALLY around him, like every single ball went to him, and we played totally hoof ball and put chances on a plate for him.

Not one striker that we've went after or are linked to is that much better than Carroll, and none can do what he does nearly as well.

15 mil is over priced, and I'm not amazingly keen on the deal myself, but if Pards thinks that he has a plan that involves Carrroll, then I will back the decision totally. I'm not saying Pards knows everything and he's a god of football, but he's done well enough for me to trust him, even though I don't understand everything he does entirely.

I mean a lot of his decisions have been like "wtf is this ****", but most of them have worked well.

Like most of his decisions, like playing Perch when we thought he was completely ****, sometimes the manager has a vision that can come true if he's given the chance to make it happen.

Remy isn't available for £15 million. de Jong went for £16m and has never played in a league of quality comparable to the Premeireship.

Cisse and Ba were master strokes - - you don't get players of that sort at that price every day.

Carroll at £15m is probably a fair price, but not a bargain. If he isn't available for that amount, I woudl prefer to buy 2 or perhaps 3 young strikers who we hope will come good but who are a year or two away from first team football. That would leave us poorly placed for this year's ACON but might be better in the long term

Rumours on twitter that we've met the Debuchy asking price... I know "rumours" + "twitter" = bullshit, but it was the NUFC twitter account apparently.

If that's true, I don't see us spending £15 million on a striker as well...

Taking somoene from League one could be very risky, I personally wouldn't go for him, but if the scouts thought he was worth it, I'd back their decision, even though I think It's quite risky.

We're already probably going to sign Debuchy or maybe Van Der Wiel for 6-8m I reckon.

So If Pards is looking to buy Debuchy, Carroll AND Anita, I'd say we have plenty of cash to spend.

I agree it's value for money, and just because we've got cash we never had before, doesn't mean we should just burn it, but I think we should ease off a little bit trying to work out an exact figure of cash to spend.

If all that happens, I WILL shag you Tash <ok>

I'd just be happy with Debuchy and a CB... Anything above that is a massive bonus

I say Carroll has had his chance, get young Adam Campbell promoted to the bench and see if he'll produce. Cracking prospect!!! But no in all seriousness, if i had the choice between 2 of Debuchy, Anita & Douglas or Andy Carroll it's a no brainer for me. Improve the squad. Cheaper cover for our strikers could be found!

Why is taking someone from the league risier than taking someone from the Eredivisie ?

The Dutch league isn't as good as the PL, but it's better than the CC. There are teams in the Dutch league that are mid table premier league level and above. The rest are CC quality.

And besides, it's not just the opposition they're playing they've got to look at.

Rhodes hasn't shown the same quality to me as De Jong has. But it doesn't matter anyway.

Heard Carroll was left out (he was initially in the squad according to the BBC, who then back-tracked) due to a strain of some sort, thigh I think.

    Who knows.
