Gave the Cuban 2 point deduction in R1 then R2 gave the Iranian a 2 point deduction - then a 3rd point for 'holding' which resulted in automatic disqualification. The 'warnings' were for nothing though. Richie Woodall commentating said it was shocking refereeing. Especially as these boxers have trained for the Olympics for years...results should be decided in the ring, not by some incompetent prick wearing a bow tie!
Terrible decision....the first bout either have had in the Plympics....The iranian wasnt too pleased..refused to go to the referee for the result.probably will get censured for that as well!
I wondered what had happened when I put it on and I just saw the ref and one bloke, and him lift his hand up. Looked like that Monty Python sketch where he wrestles against himself
Referee needs a brisk kick to the knackers, flogging, sacking and then made to live in Luton for 12 months.
I was disgusted by the bout between an American, Terrell Gausha, and an Armenian. Wish I could find some vid of the last minute. Technically it was before the bell but the clock seemed to be on 0 seconds for an age. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/joseph-diaz-jr-stars-britains-ogogo-joins-irish-boxers-with-wins-in-olympic-opener/2012/07/28/gJQAySJEGX_story.html
Not an expert on the fineries of boxing but the ref seemed intent on making a name for himself - gutted for the Iranian southpaw who to me did nothing wrong..
No, it was just standard practice boxing. It was so absurd you could almost see the refs decision as a way of 'match fixing' (allegedly) - crazy -
Yes - it was appalling. If it was obvious that the badminton doubles were cheating, then the same accusations could be put in the direction of the referee. I watch a lot of boxing, this was just a disgrace. I hope they lodge an appeal, they look to have very good grounds IMHO.
I don't know a great deal about boxing but I could tell that was a load of horseshit. Got to feel for the crowd too, robbed of a good fight
