It is interesting how keen some are to disprove accusations of being anti-muslim. Had this been a thread about Christianity nobody would be batting an eyelid, nor expressing any regret at upsetting any particular Christian contributor. I recall a thread a few months back where some were extolling the virtues of Christopher Hitchens' "God Is Not Great" and dismissing religion as belief in nothing more than fairy stories. In this modern society we are all comfortable with laying this accusation before Christianity, but run shy of doing the same elsewhere out of either fear or some trendy leftie desire to display our tolerance credentials. Like I said, very interesting.

Some consistency one way or another wouldn't go amiss.

Post 5 is the joke that I simply don't understand. Post 7, I don't get at all. They must be some sort of anti-Islam jokes.

If that's the case then its crass for this thread.

It's the constant drip-feed of sentiment and comments that have no doubt made him realise that no matter what good intentions a thread may start out with, it only takes a few ill-advised comments by a few ill-informed individuals, to turn the whole board sour.

Imaz has clearly been thinking about this for a while, given some of the other threads that have become train-wrecks over the past few weeks. It's bad enough when it's just name-calling (just about all you can do here) but when a person's faith is repeatedly used as a source of humour or to provoke contentious arguments, then for many people that have a faith, that's a step too far. Even if posters are only playing devils advocate, that rarely comes across on internet boards, and is almost never a good enough excuse for putting someone down because of their religion. And the tipping point is often different, and for different reasons, for each person.

It's a shame Imaz has gone, I hope he comes back. If he does, then I hope that a little more thought maybe goes on before people decide to provoke him again in this fashion.

Rip the piss out of him for his thoughts regarding the selection of Luke Young in defence, by all means. Just steer clear of what we all know now is a touchy subject for him.

You an only child or something? Need to be the centre of attention all the time? Where do I mention you? Or is it a guilty conscience? Is it all your fault? What do you think?

I don't think there is an inconsistency Uber. The majority on here will have been exposed to an amount of Christian doctrine in our upbringing and so our understanding of E it is greater.

When I refute the existence of God, I do so with a Christian slant because of my C of E schooling. That's not to say I think that God exists as per other religions but my belief is based on multiple theological debates with Christian friends.

A lack of understanding of the intricate detail of Islamic scripture means that most of us can't speak knowledgeably on the subject (and could be argued that we shouldn't speak about it at all unless trying to further our understanding).

If you couple that with the hate filled generalisation that was spawned by a minuscule minority on 9/11//2001 then the picture seems fairly clear to me.

I think that Christianity could claim to be neglected in terms of consideration but I don't think that extends into being a persecuted minority like the Muslims have been.

I haven't seen too many anti-Christian jokes on here but would respect someone's rights and support them if they did get upset or offended.

Staines mate, I'm sorry but hand on heart I don't understand those comments. I've just gone back to them a third time and I've googled "Gunga Din" and I still don't know what the fu*k he's on about. And the other one says "yeses boss" and I thought that was James responding to North telling him to stay off this thread. Now, you're telling me these two things mean something so I'd appreciate it if you'd enlighten me. Is James having a go at Imaz' accent? How could he, he's never heard him speak?

Maybe they're some sort of London jokes or (more likely) I'm just a bit slow. But no mate, they make no sense to me whatsoever.

Could be that James intended to mean it for Northolt he is that thick?

See if the old prune gets old of his hot tub in time to explain as if he usually makes a racist comment then it usually involves some other rubbish than two words ... He hasn't got that sort of wit maybe?

Ok fella, if that's the truth then maybe you are more innocent than i give you credit for.
And as for the (probable) 2 posts that upset Imaz, maybe they weren't meant in the insulting way that i (And possibly) Imaz took them.
Just a real shame to lose a good poster.

That's exactly what I thought. Which begs the question, what the hell did Staines think it meant?

As for the other one, Stainsy still won't explain so could you please?

So back to the OP, What was the reason for the visit.

Was it some kind of religious celebration or is it a common occurence (like going round for coffee)?

Genuine question as i cant be bothered to google it.....

PS, on a side note, Hope Imaz stays around as he's a great poster.

It's a controlled break in ramadan 2012 and I certainly respect that ... After all what can our culture point to nowadays? Christmas ... Where we waste money like water and pig out as a nation or Easter when we go to the garden centres and buy weeds

I looked it up earlier - it's the breaking of the fast for Ramadan. 3 dates are usually eaten to start with (considered symbolic) and it's considered lucky or virtuous to host other people for the meal.

Right so, Staines and Oddball both refuse to explain so its obviously bad. All I can get from Wiki is that its a reference to a character who's a Native Indian in a poem with British Soldiers involved.

What the fu*k that has to do with Muslims and our players I don't know. Guess I never will.

Unless Andy himself cares to explain?

To DT & Staines. I just answered Noetholt request not to make a comment, so I did not! I am a atheist and do not care about religion but do care when one trays to think they are alway right and think the others are wrong. Also I am not a old prune, if act I look younger then both of you! And lastly , I do not MAKE racist remarks unless they are made to my people, the English! By the way DT and your pal keep saying you are not that. You stated your from Ireland as your pal did as well or have you forgotten that? Also SWORDS did nothing wrong nor me , all in your mind, if you have one? both OF YOU SEAM TO BE HUNG UP ON BEING A RACIST. Every one else is one but you two so why don't you both look in a mirror for you may see the truth for once in your little life's!

Again, that's the way I saw it. Yet I had Staines calling me naive for not getting the insult!!

    This thread is a joke.
