    Doing the rounds on twitter:
    @nufcfans: Tweet from @AjaxFanzoneNL, #NUFC have made a new & final £7 million (€9m) bid for Ajax's Vurnon Anita (thanks @Cubistpanther).

It is on their fanzone website, which is fan made, so not very reliable (but probably more reliable than talksport or the sun ) Thoughts? Seems like a lot of money.

He can cover fullback, but his best position is like in the Jonas position.

Play at the back with Tiote, put in a shift, but he makes more forward runs and is very quick, and can assist and score.

He's like a Ramires type player. Not the the beserker type DM like Tiote, but a quick, nippy, hard working CM.

He's a midget. Would come in as a clear winner of title of shortest player in the league. Don't know how useful he could be for us

    Good centre of gravity then!

I've heard nothing but good things and I like the idea of 2 anchoring midfielders, with Cabaye pushing up a bit more. Having said that Bigi has impressed me massively throughout the pre-season and I don't think he's more than a year or 2 off being a regular starter!

Coming sunday the Johan Cruijff Schaal match is going to be played. It's similar to the Community Shield. Ajax will play PSV Eindhoven in the Amsterdam Arena. I will make a match thread of it with and will add links so that you guys can see for yourself what the Eredivisie is like.
In the match the following players you should watch will very likely be fielded:

    Ajax:
    Vurnon Anita
    Gregory van der Wiel
    Christian Eriksen
    Siem de Jong
    Alderweireld

    PSV:
    Georgino Wijnaldum
    Luciano Narsingh
    Tim Matavz
    Ola Toivonen
    Jermaine Lens

These are considered to be in the pool of greatest talents currently in the Eredivisie.

The match will start at 17:00 GMT

I asked Mark Douglas about this rumour and he replied "To quote Grease: He's the one that they want" <laugh>

I hope this one happens... and one of debuchy or Van Der Wiel

He seems a good player, would be interesting to see him in the EPL.

If you want a short, versatile midfielder for less than £7M there's always wee Jay Spearing? <whistle>

Also, it must be awful to support Ajax - past glories reduced to a talent incubator for the bigger clubs in a poor league.

    Be realistic.

Ajax were a great club, they've a fantastic history and have seen some great players go through the club.

These days? It's not the same. They buy shed loads of South Americans and then they sell the handful that blossom.

It really would be a bittersweet feeling for a fan - to love a player and know that they will leave.

Look at the past few two years - Suarez and Vertonghen have left. Eriksen will leave next summer (most likely).

    And yes, I have.

You are a bigot, there i said it. There NO South Americans in the current squad, nada, niente. 3 Danish, 1 Serbian, 1 Swedish, 1 Icelandic, 1 Belgian and 1 South African. And this goes not only for Ajax, but for Feyenoord and PSV aswell. There are about 6 or 7 Brazillians active in the Dutch league. 1 Urugyan, 1 Venezualan and 1 Chilean and thats about it. If anything the Dutch league consists for about 70% of Dutch nationality players.

And in the past four years Ajax sold Huntelaar(Real Madrid, Schalke 04), Maduro(Valencia), De Zeeuw(CSKA Moscow), El Hamdaoui(Fiorentina), Ouasim Bouy(Inter Milan), Urby Emanuelson(AC Milan), Stekelenburg(AS Roma). All of Dutch nationality and went through a Dutch youth program.

I can make this list on and on if i include clubs like Twente, Feyenoord and PSV.

    You are full of bullshit.

    Relax lad.

From what you say he appears to be uninformed (I am completely uniformed so am not in a position to know) but there's nothing particularly bigotted in his comments

Now the irony of a Liverpool supporter offering sympathy to a formerly great club that is simply a shadow of its former self, that's another matter . . .

Missingthe point here mate, his ignorance can't be measured. In fact, it is offending, and that's why i call him a bigot. Making assumptions so incredibly bad that someone should slap him in the face with a big fat trout!

And his sympathy is not needed, the Dutch league has always been about players leaving. Cruijff went to Barcelona, Marco van Basten, Frank Rijkaard to Milan, Frank de Boer, Ronald de Boer to Barcelona, Bergkamp to Arsenal. It has always been like this.
