Just off the jet from Newark and we had the entire Spuds team and managers on board. In the words of my fellow steward they were mainly "a bunch of arrogant c*nts" but I did have a quick chat with both Kyle Walker and Heurelio Gomes. Walker said he had a great time at QPR but agent stuff got in the way, whereas Gomes was on the verge of a transfer to us for £2.5m, agreed by both Redknapp, Hughes and Gomes/agent himself until Daniel Levy blocked it with a demand that the minimum fee be £8m. Gomes was disappointed and thought the original transfer fee was good enough bearing in mind how many times he played last season but it wasn't to be. I won't tell you what he said of the Spuds' Chairman but he won't be on his Christmas card list, that's for sure. Gomes was a real gentleman and very honest and we shook hands as we wished each team the best of luck. Oh, and I can see why Charlie Adam doesn't like Gareth Bale. What a jumped up pr*ck he is. If I weren't in uniform, I'd have kicked him to Heathrow myself.
Nice to hear from someone who has talked to these players face to face instead of rumours of what his uncles, cousins, nephews dog heard down the pub. Btw mate, do you know of any other stewards who support Rangers living in Staines/Laleham ??
Can't say I do, mate, to be honest. I'm very much a get-me-out-of-there person when it comes to leaving work. I know of a few of course, but only to recognise really. I was really taken with Gomes. He was honest, he confided and he seemed genuinely gutted not to be at QPR now. Oh, and his 'understudy, Cudicini, dropped his boarding pass stepping on to the plane. I laughed, he didn't. Harry 'underselling' Gomes in Levy's eyes was probably a factor why he's now playing golf and the pint-sized Portuguese fella is in charge.....
Sounds like we had a narrow escape, missing out on Gomes, but good to hear that there are some down-to-earth pro footballers around. Interesting insight, '68, thanks.
Levy sounds like a right twat, theres no way hes an £8m player. The stupid think is hes already cost the team a couple of million in Gomez wages while hes not playing. For me, hes a lot like Green, a very good goalie that will make 1 or 2 mistakes a season that a pub goalie would be embarrassed about.
Ok mate. Funny that you and me might of met at sometime at Terminal 5 and would never know it. If ever you have any baggage problems always give me a shout
I too saw the Spurs boys but i'm in passport control - they didn't seem keen to chat to me either.....and i'm cute!
Heurelio Gomes is a horrendous goalkeeper......glad that move was blocked......as above he is like Green...makes mistakes and but isnt as commanding as Green. Dodged a bullett there.
