    Curtis confirmation
Newcastle formally confirmed the signing of central defender Curtis Good on Tuesday afternoon from his hometown club, Melbourne Heart.

The 19 year-old Australian youth international arrived on Tyneside last week and will link up with his colleagues at Darsley Park this week.

Here's an article with some background that appeared recently on the Australian Goal! weekly website:

Curtis Good has agreed terms on a £10,000-a-week six-year deal with English giant Newcastle United.

And Melbourne Heart will receive a $A600,000-plus transfer fee for the teenage central defender. His contract translates to more than $A4.7 million over six years

Good cemented his position in Heart's senior side during the last A-League season. He is seen as a key player in Paul Okon's Young Socceroos squad which will contest the AFC Under-19 finals in November and is widely tipped to reach the World Under-20 finals in Turkey next year.

Good caught the eye of one of the best scouts in the EPL, Graham Carr, and Newcastle first team coach Steve Stone during a two-week trial in April. He trained with the first team for the last few days of that trial.

The Rowville youngster has an impressive CV having gone through the VIS and AIS programs and was identified as an outstanding talent during his schoolboy days at Wesley College.

He was first spotted by former Irish youth international Noel Mitten and his former Sunshine George Cross teammate Shaun Parton. Good was just 13 at the time and was competing for his school where Mitten was the director of the soccer program.

Mitten later alerted Melbourne Victory to Good's potential but the then sole Victorian A-League outfit failed to act.

Good played with Nunawading juniors and was a VIS scholarship holder for a few months before taking up an AIS scholarship and captaining the institute team in the national youth league.

He was initially signed by Melbourne Heart as a short -term replacement for injured Simon Colosimo and after Adrian Madaschi had transferred to the K-League. Good signed a senior contract with Heart in February 2011.

Heart head coach John Aloisi welcomed the move which the Melbourne outfit sees as an endorsement of its development policy.

"Newcastle United is one of the biggest clubs in the United Kingdom, and we are absolutely delighted he has the opportunity to test his wares on such a stage.

"While Curtis will certainly be missed, his transfer is a great affirmation of our youth policy and a demonstration of the club's ability to assist in developing players to such an extent that they're able to move to one of Europe's leading competitions."

Good will go straight into Newcastle's development squad and will be given the opportunity of forcing his way into manager Alan Pardew's long-term plans.

Newcastle legend and current Football Development Manager Peter Beardsley phoned former VIS head coach
Ian Greener a few weeks back enquiring about Good's character as the youngster had ticked all the boxes as a player.

Greener's positive response helped seal the deal which is one of the biggest contracts ever offered to an Australian teenage footballer.

I think he must be someone intended for the first team squad given that the article says he will be on £10,000 a week?!

More like to be Debuchy and Remy. Though the Chronicle reckon its D-day as far as Anita is concerned.

    Good afternoon.
    Good idea BTW.
Bad puns can be good as well as good puns being bad.
Good riddance to good puns is what I say.
    Goodbye.

    I agree.

Is this our first Austrailian since Craig Moore? I mean it wasn't exactly good riddance when he left but he wasn't the best. I hope this lad is gonna look after himself too, goodness knows the pieman Viduka didn't.

Anybody been following todays racing? First day of Glorious Goodwood.

    600k transfer, 10k a week <yikes><doh>

This boy better be good, that's not a youth prospect deal at all, that's a need to be ready for first team action deal. Any context or precedent for players doing well making the jump from the Australia A league to the PL?
