I think thye'd need a bit of time to rebuild match fitness before someone could give a current value to be fair.

Oxford never recovered from that hammering.

It's either the hammering of Oxford at home or the tense 1-0 win against Swansea at home (think we were both up around the top of the table) that are perhaps the best games for entertainment and atmosphere, I have experienced at the KC.

Anyway, BBB a great player for us. Best of luck Ben.

Personally I'd say oxford was better. When we played Swansea it was early doors in the season but we did get an incredible 21k for a Tuesday night. Against Oxford they were head and shoulders the best team in the division up to that point and had seemed invincible yet we ripped them to shreds. It was 4-1 until the last minute if I remember correctly.

And I think Watford play-offs is the best. I remember even the Watford fans forum saying it was the best atmosphere they ahd ever known.

A very intelligent player Ben Burgess,a touch of class. Shame to be retiring so early, but you know your own body.

One of my all time favourite Tigers. He scored some great goals for us, the chip from edge of box against Scunny springs to mind.

I remember before the match their captain bragging about how they were the best team in the league - they couldn't cope with Burgess and Alsop that afternoon and while we headed up the leagues, I think they were relegated to the conference the following season.

Noone is making them out to be supermen but with chris chilton scoring 193goals for club and ken wagstaff 173 goals for club albeit not all when playing together but a large percentage were they must be the most prolific striking partnership this club have ever had or likelyto. And if someone like Brian Clough said at the time they were one of the best he had seen they cant have been too bad. The reason we did not get promoted was due to the lack of signing two good defenders N

    Stop what?

I saw the premier league tigers, but I saw the Craig Norrie/ Steve Richards tigers too.

Burgess played at the highest level he could with us. He was league one quality- like Stuart Elliott was.

I just meant the Burgess/Fryatt comparison.

Burgess wasn't a PL or Championship player no, but at the level he played at he was quality and certainly showed an eye for goal.

Sorry don't agree with an 'eye for goal'....

When I made the comparison with Fryatt it was purely in terms of cold-blooded clinical goalscoring instinct. Fryatt has it Edwards had it Waggy had it.

    You can't coach it.

And that's the part I disagree with. Burgess wasn't a serial chance-misser, Fryatt is.

You were saying? I know this isn't the most memorable of games or goals from Big Ben, but it was the best I could find on YouTube.

I got my kids the Season Review DVD's from Alive and Kicking (under Brian Little) onwards so they can catch up ;).

Burgess was one of the best strikers City have had in recent times IMO when looking back at them.

Yeah, in the 2nd tier. JvH played in major international tournaments (I think) and in his prime wouldve scored ****loads at this level.
