Debate is only valid if there are differing views. You cannot have debate when everyone agrees. It can be frustrating, but sp what? If you want one sided views, form your own forum and don't tell anyone's else.
i think the reaction to most of whats happened lately has been pretty positive, nothing is 100 per cent great tho and it would be a pretty boring life and forum if every thread was just full of shiny happy people, glowing how great everything is, surely the whole point of discussion is a mix of positive and negative debate.. i dont see the problem with it, only becomes a problem when the usual suspects start whining about been bullied for there opinion before anybody has even said anything to them!
You are right of course cheshireben, it's all about opinion & that was mine, many other people are unhappy with criticism of Bruce Jnr even before he has played for us. But as you and others are experts on his play (I guess without seeing much of him) then you can have your opinions, but I can & do disagree with you.
Constructive criticism yes. This is not constructive criticism, it's slagging off a player for no real reason. Perhaps Bruce had a transfer budget of £5m and wanted to use the remaining budget for a winger. Bruce is a good enough defender at this level. Played a lot of his career at Ipswich etc - so he's no mug in the Championship.
I was surprised he signed on a two year contract. I was expecting him to have signed until January and then see how it goes but maybe he had other good offers.
Threads like this are complete bollocks. Everybody has the right to their opinion and if you think your opinion on here has any effect on the team (negative or positive) then you think way too ****ing highly of yourself. Though I do find it strange that most people find it acceptable to be slightly negative now yet when Pearson & Pearson were sucking the life out of the club it was taboo.
ive never been in the sort of environment Bruce Snr , Jnr and the rest of his colleagues are in but at work the managers son worked with us in his gap period last year . Altho we were all polite and nice to him we all did treat him differently , - tho that said it was when we were trying to slightly bend our work rules n stuff , (things like tea breaks finishing early tossing it off a little bit etc) So i suppose if there is harmony in the camp SBs lad being amongst them wont have an effect .
'Dressing Room harmony' has cropped up on the subject of this signing, I don't think you have to be a relative to the manager to cause upset in the dressing room, ask the likes of Joey Barton, Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh and I might add a certain manager of Blackpool FC to name a few who were no relation to anyone at the clubs they were at.
I seem to remember he played as a striker before going pro if my memory serves me right. Actually saw him score v Swindon at home for us wonder if it was the only goal he ever got. He went a bit mad with the celebration and ran into the net like an oversized trapped pike, think he knew people didnt rate him.
None of that makes any sense. The aforementioned have took criticism for perfectly good reasons. If Bruce Snr receieves criticism it will probably also be for perfectly good reasons. What possible evidence is there that the Allams know so much about what they're doing? I'm not going to re-open the debate completely, but as you've said that you're gonna have to justify it. When did they prove they know so much about running football clubs? Assem bringing his son into business might have worked fine but he didn't employ him as a footballer so it's obviously not comparable. I can't believe I'm having to point that out. What do you think about the fact that the Allams didn't want Bruce to sign his son, but caved in because he threw a tantrum over it? But you forgot that we didn't even need a defender. We already have 3 fit CBs who are comparable to what we had this time last year (swap Hobbs for Faye) and Bradley and Cooper have come on a lot since last year plus Hobbs is still to come back in a few months so overall our defence was fine without signing another one. The main reason people are complaining though (if it isn't really obvious) is that this guy would never be considered good enough for us if his dad wasn't the manager. He was just released by TWS whose best defenders are a long way behind ours so how far behind is Bruce?
Even if we forget who his Dad is, he's a centre back who has just been released by Leeds, who have one of the worst defensive records in the Championship. We also have 6 adequate centre backs at this level (Chester, Faye, Hobbs, Cooper, Bradley, McShane), we have just signed a 7th, which makes it completely pointless IMO. Then taking into account his Dad, if he gets picked ahead of someone who the other players and fans think is a better player then there will be calls that he's only been picked because of who his Dad is.
Hobbs injured, Rosenior injured, Dawson returning from injury. You're then down to the bare bones. It's a decent signing, gives us strength in depth which we severely lacked last season. So because a player is released by a club that makes them bad? That's not even a point worth arguing. He may have not been able to agree terms, other reasons can be applied other than football ability - plus he's only 27. I couldn't care less if he's the managers Son, the fact is he's played a lot of games at this level, he was free, he brings competition and cover at this level. Quite happy with it.
Cover? He's blatantly signed as first choice CB and you'd be deluded to think otherwise. We have 4 very good centerbacks to cover the main 2, what's the point in signing another? No Alex Bruce will be first name on the team sheet.
The thing I remember about him the most is that he always looked really under pressure all the time, like a Sonko of his time if you like. Compare him to Jobbo who could probably light up a cigar at certain points in the game. Wonder what Buckley is doing these days.
Why? Nobody is or should be signed as an automatic first choice. As we haven't played a competitive game yet, your point is somewhat pointless if Alex Bruce has played all 46 league games by the end of the season, then yes, you can say he was signed as first choice, until then though, he's very much cover
Well if I was Alex Bruce I would be looking to sign for any club other than the one my dad managed for all the reasons mentioned by others on here. The fact that he has opted for us means to me that no other clubs came in for him.
