He never went on tour along with Smith, DJ etc and there was no word of an injury from the club. Hes also pants.

Young, Smith, DJ, Hulse still listed on the club website player profiles. Dyer isn't. Not sure of Ehmer's status - he's young but has he been with us 3 seasons? As an import I think he has to be. Still another month to go, not over yet. But I'm pretty happy with what we have now. If no more incomings I hope Young is in the 25. He had a strange time at Villa too, not playing as much as he should have. Rather odd.
Just because a player doesn't get named in the 25 man squad doesn't mean he automatically has to leave the team. I expect there to be about 30 on the books as they could be used in rotation for training and loans. There is still plenty of time for new signings to be made between now and the start of the season and also before the end of the August window. Personally I'd like all the business to be done and the team ready to rock and roll on the 18th August rather than hanging on for another couple of weeks but if a bargain or last minute deadline deal can be done for the right price it wouldn't be a surprise to see a late arrival. One excuse I have been given for our erratic form last season was that the whole team never got a pre-season together so at least this time round the bulk of the squad have been able to play in the Far East tour. I'm looking forward to them coming back sharp and ready to kick off the new season. Up the R's!!!
There is also a possibility that Murphy may be left out of the 25. Both Green and Cerny are very rarely injured and with a young talented goalie in Aaron Lennox on our ranks it might just be that Murphy will be left out to free up space. Shot me down but I would actually prefer Betty to Helguson if push come to shove. Icemans fitness is a real concern. And for all his faults I still think Bothroyd did very well coming off the bench on several occasions last season.
Kieron Dyer could cut himself... on a Victoria sponge so I'd defintely lose him. I would also cut Hulse, Bothroyd (although I think DJ will be dropped instead) and Connolly. I also think Barton - we're right to loan him out but the recipients has to benefit so it will be a loan until January. Smith, Ephraim and DJ might have to make way if we get any more players in.
You have to name 3 goalies, there wont be a spare place for an outfield player if you name 2 so they will reduce the limit to 24. HH was out top scorer with 8 in 13 starts which is fantastic. JB got 2 in 12 starts plus had 9 sub apps to HHs 3. Plus HH is a far better all round player....and clearly a better finisher so I dont see where youre coming from with this!
Are you saying that Arsenal, Everton, Man City, Southampton, Stoke, Sunderland, Swansea and West Ham will only name 24 man squads because they only have two keepers on their books? Don't make up the rules as you go Flyer, please get your facts straight. And re Betty/Helguson it's just my opinion, sorry for having one As I said, it's Helguson' fitness that worries me. If it was on ability alone it would have been a non contest as I rate HH far higher than JB. But we didn't get much use of him in the second half of the season did we? Exactly because of this. He's injury free now, not sure if he's fit yet based on the Asia tour, but I'm afraid his injury records speak for themselves. Here's an explenation of the Premier League squad rule, I've even checked the Premier League handbook and nowhere does it state that you have to name three goalkeepers or you forfeit a place in the squad. 1) All Premier League clubs must submit a squad of up to 25 players, by September 1st. 2) Each 25-man squad must include at least eight 'home-grown' players. 3) The 'home-grown' players do not have to be English. According to the Premier League: "A home grown player is defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Welsh Football Association for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)." In practice this means that Cesc Fabregas, who joined Arsenal when he was 16, counts as one of the Gunners' home-grown quota. 4) In addition to the 25-man named squad, clubs can use an unlimited number of players aged 21 or under. This means that Manchester City's new £22.5m striker Mario Balotelli, who is just 20, does not need to be named in their 25-man squad. According to the Premier League: "An Under 21 player is defined as one who is under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences. For the 2010/11 campaign Under 21 players will have been born on or after 1st January 1989." 5) Clubs can make changes to their squad but only during transfer windows, so once submitted the clubs will be stuck with that squad until January. Only in exceptional circumstances, such as a goalkeeper crisis, can changes be made outside the window, and then only if the Premier League board approves the changes. 6) Once the transfer window opens again, there are no restrictions on how many changes clubs can make to their squads, so they can replace the entire 25 if they want to. 7) Even if a player is not named in the 25-man squad, they can still play in the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League or Europa League. 8) Players from the 25-man squad cannot be replaced if they are loaned to Football League clubs, but can regain their spot in the group if they return to the parent club. 9) Clubs do not have to name a full squad of 25 if they do not have that many contracted players and in this case they can add free agents outside the transfer window. However if they have 25 eligible contracted players, they must be named. 10) Similarly, clubs do not have to name eight 'home-grown' players if they do not have enough, but this would mean submitting a reduced squad. If a club chooses fewer than 25 players for their squad it is almost certainly due to them having a large number of under-21 players. Clubs with fewer than 25 players in their squad are still permitted to sign free agents.
Please can just one person who has picked SWP to stay , remembering his wages and input last season, tell me why everyone wants to keep him ?
We haven't been tested with a nice offer for him (anything between 4 and 7M would probably get a few arguments going) and we know he is capable of more than he's given us so far. Also too expensive and can do a job in some capacity so should easily be part of the squad.
We're not going to get an offer for him, they watched him play last year. Paying a lot of wages for someone who will struggle to make the bench.
Dont get me wrong I'm a big admirer of Smith but he wasn't on the tour despite being fit so it doesn't bode well methinks. Reckon Barton will be in the 25.
no way will connolly be in squad ahead of young who i think is the best right back we have. if ephraim and derry are in squad i will be surprised
Young was after his signing clearly our best buy I hope he stays to dismiss him as rubbish is very short sighted I think young could walk into at least 8 current premier league teams
I wouldn't mind if Barton, Hulse and SWP were playing for someone else - as for the remainder, I'm glad MH has to make the choice, not me
Spot on. Mark Hughes will be making a very big mistake if he drops him from the squad. We did a poll here around Christmas last on who was COLIN's best signing and we voted Young in overwhelming numbers. He's definitely a mid-table PL quality full-back.
Think he's had some bad press personally. I think he's a good player who is more than capable at this level..
