Never seen this "publication" before, but apparently Celtic, Birmingham and Huddersfield are all queueing up to take James Vaughan off our hands. In fact, Neil Lennon is "set to sign" him. Amazing what 3 goals in pre-season can trigger! http://www.thefootballsocial.co.uk/norwich_city/james_vaughan/
Oh yes, nurse him through an injury ravaged season, get him back to fitness in time to complete a full pre-season where he already looks sharp, and then give him away to some divvy 3 side like Celtic? In other news, Canaries to donate 20% of all gate money to 1p5wich......
He looked sharp on Saturday - and he took his goal superbly. If we can keep him fit for the season he'll make a huge differenece to us and give us real options up front. Need to keep him and need to keep him fit.
Quite honestly, I'd rather Vaughan than Rhodes; and we have no chance of getting Hooper. What I do think, though, is that Vaughan needs to be playing regularly, and starting games. It's crucial for him now, after so many injury interruptions.
Robbie - he linked up well with Holty in the 20 or so minutes they played together on Saturday - they look a formidable pairing up front imo. Here's hoping Vaughan can stay fit as he looks a "good un" to me.
He deserves a good run with injuries and there is no way when he is starting for a Premier league team that he would drop a division or go to the spl
I agree. I'm not advocating he goes. What I'm saying is that, with his potential, and after so many frustrating years blighted by injury, he needs to be starting regularly. I hope we can offer him enough opportunity, that's all.
strikes me that hughton is a fan of vaughan. i certainly am and i hope he's starting to prove it, albeit in pre-season. i think he's potentially our best striker so i really can't see him being sold off or loaned at the moment, especially as i doubt very much that we are in the market for a striker - if he left we'd have to spend to replace him but stranger things have happened i suppose...
In truth Supers, we may be looking for another striker .... not to replace Vaughan though, but I have to say that Chris Martin didn't look the part on Saturday. OK it was a pre-season kick about and we shouldn't read to much into it but to me (and others around me) he didn't look interested and although he did a lot of running and got into one or two useful positions he just didn't seem "into it", whereas both Jackson and Vaughan looked lively and threatening. Of the other "fringe players" I thought Crofts had a good game and put in a decent effort (trying to prove something maybe ?) and Barny, after a shaky start when he got skinned by Taylor to set up the chance for Tyrone Barnett (which he should have scored in all honesty), played well and looked reasonably secure. Can't see him staying though now that Turner has arrived - shame though as he's a decent lad.
agree that martin is most likely fall guy, not vaughan, but its the cost of a centre forward which makes me think that we won't go for one. it's too much expense at this stage considering its not really a weak area for the squad. money is better spent in the holding role. its not out of the question that a loan forward may come in
Have just read some of the article and it's suggesting that CH is keen for him to go out on loan for a season. Really hope that this is just lazy journalism.
and @fourthofficial, who is rarely wrong, says its completed. season long loan. cry cry cry if it happens.
This looks to be a bad call by Hughton and makes no obvious sense at all. He must have someone really hot to come in, at least I hope so. I reckon Rhodes but I would still have kept Vaughan and let Jackson go out on loan maybe.
I hope it's billhooks (a la Two Ronnies) .... Gary Hooper coming the other way is the only mitigation I'd accept for this if it is true ...
can't believe this, maybe a short loan, but not a season long one. even a short loan makes little sense. cannot be true, surely.
Just relax everyone, even if a season-long loan away, should be true, there´s no way that Hughton would have sanctioned that, especially the way that Vaughan has started this pre-season, unless he had someone better in mind, to come in. Logically it doesn´t make an awful lot of sense, and Chris Martin would probably be more likely to go, if he wanted to offload someone, but don´t forget Vaughan does have an awful history of breaking down, and for long spells too, that´s why Everton got rid of him in the first place. Hopefully it´s not true, but it wouldn´t necessarily be the end of the world, depending on who he replaced him with.
I dont mind this news. I would love to see Vaughan fully fit and scoring regularily but looking ta his injury record that is more unlikely than him picking up injuries. I think it would be a risk for the club if he got a long lay off or multiple injuries in the coming season. If he goes out on aseason long loan then that must mean we will bring someone else in who will hopefully be the same standard but more likely to be fit or of even better quality. If vaughan goes away and stays fit he will no doubt score goals and can return to us next season which would be win/win for us. If he goes away and picks up injuries he wont have an impact on the playing squad as hopefully we will bring someone else in. I would obviously be worried if we dont bring anyone else in!
