Look, to be fair, as a back up squad player he is a good signing. My only reservation is the family connection. On that basis I think a mistake has been made, but as a player, if we have to use him, I'm sure he will do a decent job for us.

To summarise, as a Hull City player he'll have my support. Just think SB should have thought long and hard about the potential effect on other squad players. Maybe he has. We'll find out soon enough.

If I was Cooper I would put in a transfer request. Surely he would be happier getting a regular place in a lower league team then constantly getting the confidence knocked out of him here.

Will Alex Bruce get near the 1st team though? He may be signed just to get him a wage!

I bet if Alex was a 20 goal a season striker no one would be complaining about him being the managers son.

But he isn't, he's an average back up defender whom we already have in the squad; therefore is a pointless signing. The only way this signing can be sort of justified is if we get rid of Mcshane

That's a bit of a stupid comment, really. A bit like saying "I bet if Mclean was a 20 goal a season striker no one would be complaining about him being a waste of space."

As I said on a previous thread, most of the criticism is coming from people who haven't seen him in a 90 min match, just listening to other peopls opinion.

Nepotism always sticks in the throat a bit, but we don't know how much he is on or how often he will feature. I think we can all agree we were paper thin at the back once Hobbs got injured and, with ongoing concerns over Dawson and Rosenior for the start of the season, it pays to have some back up.

Can't honestly say I've ever seen him play, or if I have it didn't register, so can't comment on his ability.

Ultimately the manager has to win games, or at the very least, put us in a position to win games and challenge. If the owners are OK with it, then that's for them to ponder the validity and economics of the move.

After all the upheaval, sackings, suspensions and speculation - frankly I just want to see us play some football.

Exactly the point I was trying but apparently failed to make. It's a bit like the Paul McShane debate, he needs to be moved on (wage wise) but he certainly doesn't deserve the flack he gets from some. Anyway, looks like AB will be the next one in the firing line.

People going a bit OTT on this. After having a look at the free agents on the PFA site there isn't anyone with versatility, experience and a low wage. The only players that compare are Ramage, ****tu, Gohouri and Gabbidon but they would all want substanial wages.

Good cover and I doubt he'll make more than a handful of appearances.

Very poor signing and sends out a bad message to all the defenders we have already that are better than him

I'm not too sure about Brucey signing his son, but I will give the lad a chance, but if he picks Bruce jnr over Hobbs, Chester and Rosenior then there will be uproar!!! UUT

Reading the comments, people on here are knowledgeable enough to already know about Bruce Jr from his career without seeing him play in our colours, as if he will magically improve for pulling on our shirt. Nepotism doesn't even come into it.

I havent read the rest of this thread cos I simply couldnt be arsed but reading the HDM article I was surprised to learn he has only played for his father twice. I genuinley thought it was a Peter Taylor / Junior Lewis style scenario and the majority of these "200+ championship appearances" we keep hearing about were a bit misleading as his dad gave him them.

That makes it less bad in my eyes.

He played for his 12 times at Birmingham(6 in the league and 6 in the FA Cup) and the 250 Championship games his dad keeps mentioning is actually 153 games.

He will give 100% but not sure if thats good enough.

He was our second best CB last season but that isnt saying much I was our 3rd best and I was sat in stands haha

Time for Cooper to move on now. He deserves his chance and this season looked a good opportunity for him. Another thing, who said Alex Bruce is on a low wage ? Afterall his dad is the boss !

Well surely that makes it better? Someone other than his dad had a lot more faith in playing him at this level. Whether he's ****e or not, this makes it look a lot less like nepotism in my eyes.
