Listening to Talksport. Former Watford player Micky Quinn just said, and I directly quote word-for-word:

"I'd be surprised and disappointed if it's true that Brendan Rodgers has reneged on an agreement with Swansea, 'cause his reputation in the game, integrity wise, is up there with the best of them."

Mr Rodgers' integrity is up there with Mr Quinn's goalscoring prowess when he was at Watford.

I refer you to BSAD: http://www.bsad.org/hall/quinn.html

    'Nuff said........

This headline - from a report on a 2-0 win by the scummers today - made me laugh:

    Bad Goals To Concede

Guess who they were playing. ;)

Did anyone else notice that the Briish flags carried by the French in the opening ceremony were upside down?

evening all, last night in Ireland, so making the most of the bar services. I do not understand though, how a bar doesn't have a black velvet. If you have Guinness and you have champagne, you have a black velvet...dear oh dear! Ah well...the Irish coffee was yum, and i'd forgotten how good Guinness can taste when not made in the UK!

We've suddenly realised we have a fairly late ferry tomorrow night, so we won't get home til the early hours, which would be great, except that we have olympic tickets on Monday night for the hockey so a late night is in store...ah well, i'll need a holiday when we get back! lol

Morning all from a bright & sunny bandit country - just dropped daughter off at the station and getting a few things done before Mrs W_Y awakes and he head off for one of my least enjoyable shipping trips of the year - "the pre-holiday shop" <yikes> all I need is to get a book as I have finally finished all of the Game of Thrones books and a new pair of trainers, but I know I will be in MK for hours!
Not a good day at the Olympics for GB yesterday, hopefully one of the relatively unknown competitors will strike gold!

Evening all, hope you have had a good day. Lots of little jobs completed in warm sunshine, great as is hasn't been too hot.

Great womens road race in the cycling this afternoon. The "chess on wheels" description was spot on. It did look a touch damp there though.

"A touch damp" indeed...whereas down here it's been the real deal - thunder, lightning and a succession of very heavy showers. Very few cyclists out and about at all!

I thought all Guinness was now made at St James' Gate (even that sold in the UK) - did they not close the Park Royal Brewery?

The difference used to be that the Guinness made at Park Royal was filtered but that made at St James' Gate was not. Perhaps someone with more recent experience can update/correct me. Do they still serve Guinness in Ireland at far too cold a temperature (it's stout not a lager for goodness sake!)?

I thought they closed the Park Royal brewery as well Vic...but even worse they had Extra Cold pumps of it in Cork! Mrs W_Y old Nan would only drink bottled Guinness and that was a completely different brew, the head used to pour out with more of a yellow colour than cream...

When Mme was nursing many years ago, part of her duties were to take a bottle of Guinness to all of the men on the ward each evening as a "pick-me-up."

She was a very popular nurse. ;)

Many years ago I read a review of Guinness as produced by the various breweries around the world licensed to make it. Christchurch NZ came top of all breweries outside Ireland for the draught variety, probably because of the purity of the water then. Surprisingly (for me, anyway), the best bottled Guinness produced outside Ireland was made in Nigeria. I've never had that. Presumably it if only available in west Africa. No doubt there is someone on here who can give a review of it.

I was thinking about goalkeepers we have had in the past but I need some help with a youth team keeper who didn't make the grade, though apparently he showed a lot of early promise. He was very tall. blond, foreign, and I think his name was Bo something. Does anyone know what happened to him and if he is still playing?

Which brewery was that NZ? I see that Lion Nathan are taking over the brewing of Guinness from Fosters later this year - not sure if they still brew in NZ though, they seem to be mainly based in Sth Australia now. I'm not sure what that will mean to the end product, but it would be worth investigating. ;)

That would be Bo Antal - he returned to Hungary and currently plays for Kecskemeti. His main claim to fame is that he is in the top eleven tallest players in the world.

I really can't remember which brewery. I read the review before I came to NZ so it must have been over 20 years ago. In those days there were only two breweries in NZ, Lion and Dominion Breweries (boutique breweries were illegal). I always assumed it was Lion Nathan but I don't think they brew in Christchurch anymore. Even their old brewery in Christchurch, where they did tours, went in the earthquake.
