We had a great medal haul in Beijing, but can't see us doing so well this time even being at home. Glad we got our first medal...exciting race as well.
Why do you say that? Most people I know, even those not generally interested in sport, are interested in the Olympics.
I joined the race late (as I am watching the football) and was watching the wrong swimmer...so Adlington getting a bronze was a nice surprise to me!
I actually tend to agree with that. Equaling the medal haul from Beijing will be almost impossible. That was a peak I think. With the continuing emergence of other nations, and the juggernaut that is China hoovering up more and more, medals are going to be even harder to come by. Plus I also think there will be a lot of medal hopes who crack under the intense pressure of a home games. The longer it takes to win Gold the harder it could be to get one, because the pressure will just build and build. I think that there could be quite a few 'British favourites' that don't win, but hopefully there will be a few who we never expected to get anywhere near who come in under the radar, steal energy from the crowd and grab a gold or two. One other question, why can you win 4 medals for swimming 100m in slightly different ways, but there is only one medal for running 100m? Why not a 100m running backwards, or hopping on one foot? Or, just have swimming like everything else, 1 race, swim 100m as fast as you can, use any stroke you like.
Glad the Aussies came 4th in the mens 4x100m, after finding out they name themselves the weapons of mass destruction.
If someone is the best in the country at an event and tries their best, it is not their fault that another country has a better athlete.
It's similar to how more than a few people are going to be slagging off Saints next season, expectations were raised by Beijing (plus a lot of people only watch Olympic sports for two weeks out of 208, and don't expect new talent to emerge from the rest of the world).
I think we'll get between 40 and 50, with between 10 and 20 golds. Still good, but nowhere near the crazy predictions i've seen from some sources (e.g the Guardian who predict 84 medals and 25 golds).
That is way too high. I think a bit more than your 50 but nowhere near the Guardian figure. Chances of swimming and diving medals today plus a sneak in the mens Gymnastics.
I think they must have a real chance in the team, and also on individual apparatuses. Could be as much as 3 medals overall for the men, but it's so competitive, so could easily be 0 as well. It's great were even talking about them having a chance, for most of my life British Gymnasts have been nowhere near even making the finals.
Yes and just watched both our rowing teams this morning qualifying for their finals. The men's eight looked particularly good. Being paid to sit here and watch sport. Can't be bad!
