    things i liked:
    - portrayed the history of britain well
    - music was pretty good
    - £27m seems a good price for such an epic opening
    - the aerial shots were amazing

    things i didnt like:
-the whole thing at times seemed to be one big propaganda drive for 'multi cultural britain' - i dont recall any black industrialists in the 1700's
-the NHS thing, very boring and drawn out
-felt sorry for beckham not being able to take part in the olympics after all he's done for it

Totally agree Swamp, I thought on the whole it was awesome dispite a few bits that weren't to my taste (can't please all the people all of the time!)

Bad points: Trevor Nelson, NHS thing was a bit strange but I like the fact they celebrated our nurses etc and that's about it really.

Thought the music was awesome too.

Hated seeing the haters on FB slagging it off - it was amazing.

thought there could have been more coverage given to the smaller nations, agree there totally john.....<ok>

the teams walking around is good until it gets to 'C' or so, stopped watching then came back just to see team GB come out  bit of a farce that half the athletes are away training so didnt turn up tho.

Each to their own, but if you get a chance to see some highlights, I'd recommend it. There were some pretty special moments.

I enjoyed most of the opening ceremony, did find it a bit odd that the NHS and Great Ormond Street were in it, but the thing that annoyed me the most was the introductions and commentary spoken in French. Thought this was the British Olympics.

Well I LOVED it! Whereas Beijing was cold & sterile, this had warmth, heart, humour, and humanity. Stand out moments for me were the forging of the rings, and then watching in amazement as they came together, still glowing, in the sky. When they then started to blaze it became a truly epic moment. Others were the Queens entrance, David Beckham's boat ride up the Thames, Doreen Lawrence carrying the Olympic flag out, and the seven young athletes lighting what was a truly remarkable work of art & engineering.
All in all the opening ceremony did Britain proud, a prelude to the best Olympics of them all!

Agreed with the last few comments. An excellent view of Great Britain for the world - although many people from other countries wouldn't have a had a clue what was going on. Their problem not ours. Absolutley loved Mike Oldfield and Rowan Atkinson's role in the Chariots of Fire music.

The lighting of the flame by budding athletes and raising of the cauldrons to form the main flame was awesome.

My one gripe on a rather ironical point. The coaches and others came on and swore Olympic Oaths against drug taking. What was the finale? An ancient, confessed, former drug taking pop star singing a song about main lining heroin. <doh>

I heard that Robbie Williams was asked to headline but declined as his partner was due to give birth last weekend. I also heard that Pink Floyd were asked to play and also declined. Great excerpt from dark Side of the Moon though. <ok>
