There is quite abit of tension mounting on this board and within pretty much the whole SAFC fan base with only one signing made so far but I think come the end of the transfer window we will be pretty happy with our playing squad. With Michael Turner completing his move to Norwich the other day it took Sunderlands number of outgoing players to 16 in this transfer market with reports that more could be on there way out with the possibility of Elmohamady not being in the managers plans and the constant talk of Richardson wanting a new challenge, there is also the possibility of Wickham (and maybe Meyler) going out on loan as MoN suggested yesterday and not forgetting that Bramble, Killa and Campbell are all entering the last year of there contracts which could result in if the right offer comes in they too will be off just like Turner. Personally I think the club are in a fantastic position, with all those out goings and possibly a couple more MoN has done a first class job of moving players on and reducing our wage bill. MoN is no mug and neither is Ellis Short along with all the backroom staff. They know that we need quite a few additions to not only improve us but to give us a good solid squad, MoN even said around Feb time that our squad was to small and at that time we still had Gordon, Turner, Kyrgiakos, Bridge and Bendtner to call upon. I am positive that this week will kick start our transfer activity and by this time next week we will of added 1 or 2 new faces to our playing squad, I wouldn't be surprised if another 4 or 5 follow before the transfer window slams shut. I will add if I am wrong and we have not signed more than 2 new players by the 10th I will be ****ting it but I am 99% sure that will not be the case Ha'Way the Lads!
I'm also reasonably happy with our position at the moment. However, this is the bit I don't get... MON said our squad was a bit small, we're letting plenty go, and both Short and MON have said we're only going to add a few players (albeit quality players). We could be in trouble again if the injuries start racking up.
Completely agree poolie. As much as I am getting frustrated and a little worried there's not much we can do at the moment but wait, hope and have a little faith.
MoN has said we need to score goals everyone knows we need forwards so i can deffo see 2 arriving. who we will get thats anyones guess. we have moved on 18 players this summer short has said we are looking for quality not quantity he also said finishing 13th last season was not good enough so i know he will back MoN in the transfer market. He backed SB so i cant see why he wont back MoN. Between now and August 31st i can seen at least 5 players arriving if not short cant expect any better finish than last season. LB CB MID/WINGER FORWARD FORWARD KTF lads & lasses
would take the "only a few" with a pinch of salt, wouldn't be the first time a manager has came out with that and added way more signings, every summer Brucie came out with the "two or three new faces" story and brought in 9 or 10 in his summers at the club
we also have to remember clubs are still on there pre-season tours. Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs in the USA and City, Utd and Arsenal in Malaysia maybe we are after Downing and/or Johnson and maybe another player or two from the top clubs even if its on a loan basis but I wouldn't be surprised if there clubs have said that it will be sorted when they come back from there tour, like us with Turner and Norwich. Have to say I would love it if we brought in Martin Olsson over the next couple of days to kick us into action.
Think we wil sign Fletcher this week, then will have to wait for the top clubs to start shifting more players before we sign more. Think there's something in the downing & Johnson rumours, but its all guess work, & gutt feelings.
would be happy with Fletcher, if we brought him and Olsson in it would be my ideal week as a SAFC fan, would be two great signings for us. I do hope though Fletcher is not guaranteed to be a regular, I want us to sign 2 strikers that are both challenging for a starting spot and not just 1 like Bendtner who was under no pressure last season. The better the competition the better we will do and I think we will be going with 4/2/3/1 or a 4/3/3 so I can only see 1 out and out striker in the starting line up.
