Olympics and Formula 1 all to look forward to and mainly some average racing. However, I thought one horse worth a mention was ST MORITZ 16/1 at Pontefract 3.50 in a solid enough listed event.

I thought Rugged Cross was the standout in the field and at 4/1 looked tempting but at a dodgy Northern track on nice fast ground, Adrian Nicholls ought to be making a very bold bid from the front and this will be a case of catch me if you can. Might get an uncontested lead and if so, 16/1 looked overpriced.

Other than that, the McClarens seem to be going well in Hungary but note the Lotuses this week- much better grid positions this time around and we might get to see the real pace of them tomorrow. I'll take Kimi Raikkonen 10/1 to run a stunning middle part of the race on the harder compound and make a 2 stopper work to its optimum. At much fancier prices, Sergio Perez 100/1 e.w paying 3 places is not as daft as it looks. Very good race pace and looked very decent when 6th in Q1, which might give you a slightly better idea of race pace than the optimised Q3 laps. If he gets off to a flier he will be very interesting because he has been very unlucky the last couple of weeks.

Irene Kennet 5.30 Stratford. Forecast 10/1 but that's probably a little ambitious.

Morning all, decent day at Ascot yesterday where came out about even after the beers were paid for.

Carlisle 3.10 Moheebb 5/1 - Dropped in to claiming company today which should see him go close.

Pontefract 3.50 - Rugged Cross 4/1 - Should find this easier than LTO when facing Camelot in the Epsom Derby.

Rimmell has his string in good order though mate and its a poorish looking race, could easily run a place and McCains may not be one of his better bumpers although it looks the one to beat.

    4.20 Pontefract MON BRAV 10/1

Hold-up performer who scored twice over 6f last term. Good 2 lengths second to Damika at Nottingham last month and 7lbs better off. Headgear back on

    JOB DONE!!

Morning all <ok> and come on Rebecca Adlington in the 400m freestyle today :)

Plenty Pocket takes a massive drop in class in the opener at Stratford today and, although he is probably the least talented animal in the Nicholls yard, the 5/2 that Betvictor is dangling looks very tempting.

AP McCoy has some nice looking rides and I think Calypso Bay (NAP) in the 3.30 could go in at very rewarding odds. He had a pipe-opener on unsuitably easy ground at Ffos Las beginning of June and todays surface should be much more to his liking. Still only 6, the Galileo gelding can step up on his previous best effort (winning over 3m1f on Good at Uttoxeter this time last year off 109) to take this prize.

In the 4.30 it looks like David Pipe is having a real go with both American Art and Bathwick Man having very solid claims. I will be playing the reverse forecast with a small win bet on American Art, who I think has marginally better credentials.

McCoy can strike again with the aptly named Olympian in the 5.00 - here is another one who will appreciate the return to a livelier surface having bolted up under McCoy in May over hurdles on Gd/Fm (the 3rd Westlin Winds has won since) and he showed his wellbeing with a fine 2nd on heavy ground 3 weeks ago.

    Best of luck everyone <ok>

I see Bet 365 have shortened Frankel from 1/12 to 1/16 for the Sussex Stakes this morning and on Betfair he's 1/12 from 1/8 - sod all matched though

All those green blobs above your avatar - when I move my mouse across it it says "GGW has a brilliant future". My one green blob says "OddDog is on a distinguished road". More newfangled web stuff that I don't understand <laugh>

<laugh> it's that whole rep thing. some of the guys on the newcastle forum are a little obsessed with it and because i sometimes post on the newcastle page i often get repped by them because you can't keep repping each other - you have to rep around a bit before going back to someone again - so they rep me i guess. hence my green bar and high rep power.

Best of luck Quel - the only one in the field I could attribute a semblance of speed to is McCain's Generous mare. The others would all probably want 3 miles on soft <yikes>
