I remember people stating how Michael Turner seemed to pick up loads of injuries when he left us and went to Sunderland, after being an ever-present in our side the season before, and remember some people saying it's down to Bruce's training methods. I'm sure it could be a case that players are carrying over injuries from last season, but so far, it's been quite a big injury list when compared to last seasons injuries, off the top of my head, players injured so far, are: Olofinjana, Fryatt, Evans, Dawson, McKenna and now no McShane or Cairney today, which I assume means injury? (I won't add Rosenior as we know that isn't due to training - anyone know where Faye is?) So, is it Bruce's training methods, or is/was that just a myth?
if i remember correctly, bruce doesnt even take control of training, he's not even there half the time... im pretty sure he leaves all that to his ass man and other staff... thats why you dont see him in many pictures training with the lads.
Injuries can also be a result of not training hard enough, then overdoing it on a Saturday. I haven't seen any data to suggest any correlation between Steve Bruce's training sessions and high injury rates, and reiterate its most likely just a myth.
I have said this for ages. Steve Bruce is Old School and uses old school methods. Only Hobbs and Rosie came back for pre-season injured. Steve Agnew confirmed after the Grimsby game that all the players had been worked very very hard over in Portugal. I would accept that lots of running is a pre-season requirement but once we get to the big kick off training should be tailoured to who you shall play on a match day. Running is fine but do it with the ball. MT was a prime example at Sunderland of what can happen when over doing things. But i also blame the fitness coach as much as Bruce for any such issues. Yes he is. Its the old school ways apparantly. Turner did put alot of his niggly injuries down to the training methods. He was not alone either. Glad you think so.
pre-season is a different scenario to the season's equivalent[/QUOTE] Players go into the most intense training of the year on the back of 6-8 weeks of the most inactive part of there year. Thats why we and other clubs pick up injuries and pulls.
How many players where injured in the latter part of last season? Players have injuries that's all there is to it. Football at this level wrecks bodies.
