all welsh players didnt sing the anthem......for me they should be free to choose whether to sing basically the english anthem. some very amusing comments on the daily mail **** stirring article which i quote below. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...elsh-Scots-snub-National-Anthem.html#comments the comments section is closed for some reason but the jist of them was this. 'absolute disgrace to our nation, if they are happy to accept a place to play for GB they should sing the anthem'. all the while forgetting that there is never a witch hunt to ban rooney, and co, who dont sing the english anthem.....
Commented elsewhere on this Swamp. I may be wrong but it appeared to me that it was only the Welsh guys not singing - or at least their lips weren't moving. I agree everyone should have the choice but the fact it was our guys apparently who were the only players not partaking, smacked a bit of a joint action on their part, which doesn't look good. They were representing GB after all, not England or Wales, and GSTQ is the national anthem of GB, like it or not. I can guess at the crowd reaction next Wednesday at the Millennium Stadium when GSTQ is played. Light the blue touchpaper and retire. Wonder what the BBC will make of that? I have tickets for the game so I hope the atmosphere is generally better than Old Trafford last night. It sounded like a morgue on the tele and until the boots started flying second half the biggest cheers (Bellers goal apart) were for the Mexican bloody Wave!!!
its not right 2 have the same english national anthem as the british isles one.........so yep the lads were right in not signing it for me. i dont blame them from wanting 2 play at this competition but at the same time wish we were classed seperate as a nation 2fly our own flag instead of the onion jack..........the english royal family dun jackshit(excuse the pun)apart from send our men as cannon fodder for the enermy 2 shoot down.
Thought it was quite funny , but that's just my odd sense of humour . Don't have any problem with GSTQ but wouldn't sing it as I'm welsh , might have been a mini protest at Joe Allen being called English .
Booing of a certain player is far worse that the Welsh lads not singing what is really the ingerlish national anthem ,nothing in it is to do with Wales and it just praises up some family of a mix breed of blood .........no Wales reconition on the union flag so why the hell should our players sing a song which is completely alien to them .
I believe there is no official English anthem. GSTQ is the British national anthem. I also believe it is up to the individual to decide whether or not to sing the British national anthem and whether or not thye sing their own national anthem when playing for Wales, Scotland, northern Ireland or England.
I'm with taff... its up to the player. From what I can tell, the only ones kicking off about this are either English or Royalist and I couldn't give a toss about eithers opinion Anyway, it's time they thought about dropping the 'Great' from Great Britain and 'United' from United Kingdom because, lets be honest, this island is neither
This is a bloody joke half those players dont even sing our national anthem so why all the fuss about them not singing the british one!!! LOL
Can any english football player really sing their national anthem all the way thro? or just the verse ........;O) Same go`s for their crowd .......
I've put my thoughts on the other thread. H As far as Great Britain goes it only signifies great as being large, Brittany in France was the small Britain and we were the Great (large) Britain. The United Kingdom may be no more if the Scots vote for independence.
It's time the English had their own anthem instead of God Save The Queen which is the anthem of Great Britain. They have their own flag so why not their own anthem.
Bit pathetic - quite a few players of different countries don't sing their national anthem. What I find really sad is that anybody takes notice of what is written in the Daily Mail.
The Ingerlish believe that the GSTQ anthem is solely theirs, that they own Britain and that only their opinions count. They sell this belief that they are the master race across Europe and their bloody media machine believes it as well. Tell em to get their own anthem, or what about adopting that old sea shanty for them the one that goes.....I,m a ****er, I,m a ****er, I clean my hood all night, or we could change that to....banker and I cleaned out the country all right? Ooops sorry guys went of the thread then..Up the bloody revolution I say...Ciders good tonight, no wheres that extra mature cheddar gone?
For me singing that song reflects your feelings on the monarchy not the country. Otherwise, it can't be possible to be patriotic and be a republican. I felt a sense of pride when the Welsh players didn't sing
I think we're all British and should be in this together. Sing the ****ing song for christ sake. I'm proud of where I'm from but find all this "I'm not singing their song" pathetic. It's the anthem of GB, not England. I am a royalist though so maybe that's why I see it like I do. I just think, as a Head of State, the Queen is a better option than some lying, slimy "Mr President" who will just be another policitian to lie to us. The Queen generates massive tourism and is known around the world, and politically speaking we're a fully function democracy anyway so what's the difference. I'd sooner disband the House of Lords as I don't like Bishops having a say.
Why should Welsh folk sing an anthem which is totally alien to them we have our own thank you very much and well done to the welsh lads staying quiet ,it is the anthem of england no matter how you try to dress it up as why do they use it all the time and not their own?
I've given this some thought since my last post and wonder if I actually may be in for a change of mind. As discussed in a another thread I am a royalist but wonder if another song would be more appropriate. Rule Brittania or something. That way those uncomfortable with it don't have to compromise their sense of identity. I suppose it is proper English that song, and as such is arguably at odds with my United Kingdom ideal so I agree with you, but potentially for different reasons.
