I love the games Dan, but I have trouble believing that drugs don't play a major part in just about all medal performances. I read many moons ago that the chasing down of the cheat is a decade behind the user.

    I agree on both counts.

They had a documentary about the Men's 100 Metres in 1988. A US doctor said that they'd run loads of their own tests in Seoul and half of them came out positive but he decided to let sleeping dogs lie. He also said that the use of growth hormone was so prevalent that adults were wearing braces on their teeth due to jaw deficiencies. They then cut to Carl lewis accusing everyone of being on drugs - and he was wearing braces!

I enjoyed the ceremony last night, it was never going to be as good as Beijing but it was good nonetheless.

Agreed but it's a shame they never screwed up the athletes' parade - announcing Palestine as Israel or Chinese taipei as China would have been quality.

I saw that. 6 of the 8 finalists that day have since been involved in drug controversies.

Carl Lewis unloading on Jamaican drug testing. <laugh> He says he doesn't want to say Bolt is a cheat, but asks why he ran 10.03 one year, then 9.69 the next. Pot and kettle?

    Today's Telegraph.

When the Russians were clearly taking drugs, the Americans were still competing with and regularly beating them.

They claimed they did it through hard work and training. Aye, sure.

For years the Eastern Bloc was using the Olympics etc. as a show of strength and they took the drugs to achieve it - that's now a matter of record. Amazing really that it was only the Americans who could still compete on level terms without taking anything <laugh>

Florence Griffith-Joyner is considered the "fastest woman of all time" based on the fact that she still holds the world record for both the 100 meters and 200 meters, both set in 1988 and never seriously challenged.

    Mmmm...

I seen it written quite often that it's only the stupid who get caught at a major comp.
