Hey Jude a bit more respect for us old guys, Sir Paul McCartney is a wee bit past his sell by date perhaps, I honestly think he was nervous tonight, even the famous are human, but I suspect he wouldn't be in the least bit interested in your criticism as he is well loaded and you aren't and never will be.

What's with all the Beatle bashing?? They are probably the most popular band of all time.

Yep. Doesn't mean everyone automatically has to like them.

I thought they were ok as a group, but Paul by himself is annoying. He can't even sing, he should have retired when Lennon died.

You don't have to like them but I would have thought it was pretty obvious that they were something outstanding. I don't particularly enjoy Mozart but I appreciate he was an outstanding musician

Don't like their music. Appreciate how influential they are but can't stand listening to them myself, simple as that.

The impact of the ceremony would have been increased had they ended with the magnificent torch bit. Sir Paul should have "played" earlier so he could have been sipping his cocoa when the cauldron was lit.

Agree with that FLT. Personally I could have done with more "Jam" but overall thought it was excellent.

Starting with the Jam was great, especially as I introduced my son to them last week. Started him on Ska, which he loves, and now moving on a stage.

Did you see my post about your local Olympic traffic on other thread?

I've worked out that determinism is a seemingly flawless philosophy and that there is no such thing as true free will. Everything that happens is part of a chain of cause and effect, which was pre-determined at the time of the big bang.

What will I work out next?

Yes just replied. Saw From the Jam about three weeks ago. Foxton still looks about 25! Git! Still brilliant live. Go and watch if you get a chance.

As I am on a long weekend away, I saw the whole thing on a much smaller screen than my 42", but even so it looked fantastic. I really wish I had managed to get a ticket. Being there must have been incredible.

    Wow! Bloody excellent opening ceremony.

You may or may not like the Beatles (personally I do), but you can't deny their cultural significance. And for those complaining about Hey Jude, remember that the line "Naaah Naah Nah Na-Na NaNa" will translate into any language equally well and can be sung by any nationality.

I'm very interested to learn what other countires made of it. Did they know what NHS and GOSH stood for, recognise the music or all the literary references?

I was watching in the lobby of my hotel in Croatia, and there was one very old German man who was very excited by the whole thing. He was explaining the NHS to a young boy. He was delighted by Rowan's appearance as well.

Did any-one else spot the German official doing what looked suspiciously like a Nazi salute as their team entered the stadium. Think the clip is now on You tube.
